Affordable Housing and Groceries Act  This is remarkable, particularly in light of the controversy around another Conservative government, Doug Ford's government in Ontario, taking rules off the development of the Greenbelt, which his government subsequently had to put back on because it was scandalous and because developers were set to get rich, including a lot of developers who showed up at the wedding of the premier's daughter.

Affordable Housing and Groceries Act  It is such a good idea that the Province of Ontario, the member's own province, and Premier Doug Ford, who, by the way, is not a Liberal, are on board with it. He is doing the same thing now. It is only the Conservatives who have this preoccupation. There was a time, before they were taken over by the far-right, when they understood the benefits of a price on pollution.

Government Operations committee  Your government is talking about selling public lands and public buildings. We've heard Conservatives talk about doing that. We saw the Doug Ford government doing that with the Greenbelt, and we are going to see billions of dollars ending up in the pockets of a handful of developers. How do we have certainty that this is not going to happen here in Canada?

Criminal Code  We were able to get this done with unanimity in this chamber because premiers, including Conservative premiers, and ministers were pushing us to get this done. They included Minister Bronwyn Eyre in Saskatchewan and Premier Doug Ford in Ontario. That was amazing co-operation at the time. That goodwill still exists among political leadership and law enforcement leadership around Canada. I would like to harness it and harness the goodwill of the parties opposite to, again, have these amendments passed quickly.

Human Resources committee  She was taken with her sister from Fort Albany and died in a fire in a house in Orléans, 2,000 kilometres from her family. We lost our child advocate in Ontario. Doug Ford fired Irwin Elman. We are very concerned in our region about children being taken out. You have talked about kinship and customary care. How do you see that we make sure that the children who have to be taken from their parents, maybe because of drugs, violence or other problems, are still able to be cared for in the kind of loving, cultural support that they are entitled to and that our society must insist on?

Canada Labour Code  The other thing I would like to see them do would be to call on the provincial governments, call on their buddy from Alberta, Danielle Smith, to bring in anti-scab legislation for Albertans. That would go a long way. Next, they should go to Ontario and call on Doug Ford to do exactly that as well.

Human Resources committee  I was pleased that you mentioned Irwin Elman, who I think is one of the great heroes. He was the very first person Doug Ford fired when the Ford government came in. I mean, Irwin Elman kept children alive with his work. I mention him because, in my region, adoption has some very dark sides to it because of what's happened in indigenous communities.

Government Business No. 30—Proceedings on Bill C-56  When the Conservatives say we do not have to do anything and we just have to give corporate landlords more leeway, we see what Doug Ford in Ontario has brought. He has brought the destruction of the Greenbelt, the unbelievable selling out of the public good for private profit. It is simply not a solution. If we want to bring it home for people in this country, we need to make the kinds of investments the NDP is calling for, some of which are reflected in Bill C-56.

Fall Economic Statement  They have not included in their fall economic statement the need to protect all public institutions so that we do not have Danielle Smith, Premier Moe or Doug Ford putting hospitals and other institutions under CCAA to strip them, destroy them and take them apart. Is my colleague willing to work with the New Democrats? We are going to fight to ensure that what happened at Laurentian University is never done again to a public university or any kind of public institution.

Finance committee  By the way, as a city councillor, I found it obscene—talking about ODSP, or even Ontario Works for that matter—that there is this mechanism within the provinces so that, if somebody who is on ODSP or Ontario Works finds a bit of meagre employment somewhere, it is immediately clawed back. Now we have premiers like Doug Ford threaten this in the same regard. What is your position on the clawback of the Canada disability benefit? How much of a disaster would that be for the federal government to be able to provide people with money, only to see it snapped back by provincial premiers?

National Defence committee  As a result, last Tuesday, the Premier of Quebec, François Legault, and the Premier of Ontario, Doug Ford, joined the Bloc Québécois in asking the government to hold a call for tenders, which would allow for a transparent and fair process for the various aerospace manufacturers. In that context, I would like to reopen the debate on the motion that we, the Bloc Québécois, put forward last Tuesday and on which the debate was adjourned.

Public Service and Procurement  Mr. Speaker, premiers François Legault and Doug Ford released a public statement calling for an open competition to replace the Aurora aircraft. That is all they are asking for, an open competition. The Liberals need to end their policies that are hurting Quebec and the aerospace industry.

Business of Supply  We know that today other provinces are now looking at ways they can get on board. I hope the Province of Ontario, through Premier Doug Ford, will realize the benefits of encouraging that conversion by participating in it. Getting back to the reckless attitudes of the Conservative Party, the other day, when the leader of the Conservative Party was addressing the House, I posed a question on the issue of taxes.

Business of Supply  That is a model the western initiative adopted with a number of states in the United States and a couple of provinces in Canada, including Ontario, although Doug Ford has since backed out of it. Another way we can do it is through cap and trade. By capping the emissions, we can start to control what we know is the highest emitting sector and the fastest growing.

Committees of the House  Between them, the Liberals and the Conservatives lost one million affordable housing units over the last 17 years. We saw the disrespect that Conservatives have for actually building housing with the Doug Ford government. They took an incredible amount of land out of the Greenbelt, which would be used for profiteering and for the rich. I have to ask my friend this: Do the Conservatives now repudiate those decisions made by the Doug Ford government?
