Carbon Pricing  Mr. Speaker, a report released this week by Food Banks Canada shows that more Canadians are relying on food banks than at any time since 1989. It is no surprise. The carbon tax applies to the farmers who grow the food, the truckers who truck the food and the grocers who refrigerate the food.

Oil and Gas Industry  Mr. Speaker, this week, the Netherlands agreed to buy liquefied natural gas from the Middle Eastern dictatorship of Qatar for the next 27 years. Last week, France agreed to buy LNG from Qatar for the same amount of time. This is in addition to similar LNG deals that Germany recently signed with Middle Eastern dictatorships.

George Reed  Mr. Speaker, this week Rider nation lost one of its all-time greats. George Reed, number 34 for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, passed away just one day shy of his 84th birthday. George played all 13 seasons of his CFL career for the green and white, from 1963 to 1975. During this time, his on-field performance was nothing short of incredible.

Petitions  Mr. Speaker, I congratulate you on your new role. I am pleased to have the opportunity to present e-petition 4547 to the House of Commons. This petition was initiated by Regina resident Khurrum Awan, and it has been signed by residents across the country. The petition is regarding reports of politically motivated acts of violence in Pakistan following the arrest of former Pakistani prime minister, Imran Khan, and the postponement of general elections in that country, in violation of the country's constitution.

Carbon Pricing  Madam Speaker, according to Food Banks Canada, nearly seven million Canadians are struggling to put food on the table. That is because farmers pay the carbon tax on the food they grow, truckers pay the carbon tax on the food they transport, grocers pay the carbon tax on the food they refrigerate and all of those carbon taxes get passed on to the consumer.

Petitions  Madam Speaker, over the summer I had the opportunity to meet with Dorothy Pane and Linda Megason of the Gardens Condominium Corporation, which is a non-profit corporation in Regina, Saskatchewan. Dorothy and Linda have been paying very close attention to the condominium complex's ever-increasing monthly electricity and heating bills.

Petitions  Madam Speaker, therefore, I am pleased to present two petitions today on behalf of the residents of the Gardens Condominium Corporation. The first petition calls on the government to scrap the carbon tax in its entirety, and the second petition calls on the government to at least stop collecting GST on top of the carbon tax.

Petitions  Madam Speaker, the second petition concerns reports of politically motivated acts of violence against opposition parties in Pakistan in the lead-up to general elections in that country later this year. This petition calls on the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development to study the feasibility of imposing Magnitsky sanctions on members of the Pakistani military who are responsible for these acts.

Seven years ago, U.S. President Barack Obama visited Ottawa and addressed parliamentarians in the House of Commons. There was one line from his speech that received a standing ovation and was in all the news stories that night.
