Public Safety committee  Some of the top competitors, off the top of my head, in my event specifically, are Ukraine, Greece and South Korea. China's going to be in there as well. Some of the others that are on the top list are escaping me, but throughout Europe...there's France as well.

Public Safety committee  It is a waste of my tax dollars. Instead of preparing to compete against my peers from Ukraine, Greece, South Korea and France—among many others—I'm doing paperwork for the privilege of not being arrested or having my competition equipment confiscated at the border when I return home.

Official Languages  French is not in decline in Quebec, says the member for Saint-Laurent, in between two trips to Greece. I cannot support Bill C‑13 because it contains certain Conservative and Bloc amendments, says the member for Mount Royal. These are Liberal government members. Will they vote in favour of the Liberal government's Bill C‑13?

Subcommittee on International Human Rights committee  I want to start by saying that there's cross-movement solidarity. We've seen that with the Beijing Olympics. I was actually in Greece with my Uighur and Hong Konger friends, with some of us arrested and detained in different jails, but we were together. On the Chinese government's tactics, it's so clear that China is constantly duplicating the tactics used by other authoritarian regimes, whether it is surveillance or ripping children away from their families.

Official Languages committee  If you were not Catholic, you were automatically sent to an English school if you lived in certain parts of Montreal. When my grandmother arrived from Greece, her daughter was also from Greece, but her son, my father, was born here. He tried to enrol at the school closest to him, around the corner from his house, and it was a French school.

Business of Supply  At the top of the chart are Denmark, Sweden, Chile and Portugal. Then, in the next section, we see Egypt, Greece and Indonesia. Even further down the list, in the orange section, we see Thailand, Belarus and Turkey. Incidentally, I want to say that my thoughts are with the people of Turkey. I can only offer them supportive thoughts because, unfortunately, I am not there, but I think that the international community needs to take action to help the people of Turkey who are dealing with this disaster.

Business of Supply  The Conservative government in the U.K. has already put a 25% windfall tax on oil and gas profits. The EU has announced plans for a tax on windfall profits. Spain, Greece, Italy, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria have all implemented a similar levy, yet both the Liberals and the Conservatives oppose making big oil companies and the ultrarich pay their fair share.

Theodoros Trakas  We lost him in December, just shy of his 100th birthday, but boy did he do so much in those 100 years. He moved to Canada from Greece. He had served in the Greek military. In fact, when we celebrated the Oxi Day parade along the Danforth, he was there showing his proud contributions and saying oxi to fascism. Even more than that, he helped build our city.

Subcommittee on International Human Rights committee  The United States, Italy and Greece all have ad hoc programs that are tailored to the situation, as my colleague Ms. Malavoy was just saying. Right now, in Afghanistan, we are doing nothing.

Subcommittee on International Human Rights committee  I have a list with me that I have compiled of 65 women judges. Several of them have died. Greece has created a special category for women prosecutors or judges, specifically. Some of them already have their visas. They are already living there. To answer Mr. Brunelle-Duceppe's question, we have to consider what the Minister, Sean Fraser, said just two weeks ago: that there were no categories for selecting people to be admitted under our programs.

Business of Supply  However, I have a list of countries that have an excess profit tax: Belgium, Czech, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, U.K., Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, and I could go on. They have had the courage to go after CEOs. The member has said that the Liberals cannot help Canadians like they did in COVID, but they are helping CEOs like they did in COVID.

Fall Economic Statement Implementation Act, 2022  The minimum monthly price for a 4G smartphone plan that includes at least 20 gigabytes of data is higher in Canada than in Greece, New Zealand, South Africa, Norway, Germany, China, the United States, Finland, Sweden, Japan, Australia, Spain, the United Kingdom, India, Brazil and Italy, and the list goes on and on.

Public Safety committee  Ironically, many of the European nations that are held up against Canada due to their tight gun controls, including France, Belgium, Greece and Sweden, fare much worse in their crime rate, and Germany is also comparable. Canada is not the United States, and it is not healthy to import their cultural issues for political gains.

Industry committee  We know that cryptocurrency mining uses as much energy as a mid-sized country, whether it's Argentina, Finland or Greece. I've heard various examples. It's my understanding that because of the way cryptocurrency is produced, the amount of energy tends to increase...by law, almost. I have cryptocurrency mining operations in my riding, because we have cheap electricity there.

Oxi Day  Oxi Day, or “no” day, commemorates the moment in 1940, at the start of the Second World War, when Greece rejected Mussolini's ultimatum calling for the occupation of Greece by Italy's fascist forces, allies of the Germans and the Japanese. Oxi became a rallying call for Greek resistance to fascist aggression.
