Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act  Madam Speaker, I was listening to my colleague's speech. Bill C-3 is being brought forward early in this Parliament. Could the member explain her thoughts about the opportunities that will exist at the committee level to bring in actual border guards, and I do not mean union representatives, I mean individuals who will be using the rules herein, to have their voices heard and does she think that would be a good idea?

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act  Madam Speaker, I will begin by saying I am officially not running for the leadership of my party. I am open to caucus chair. I could repeat that in French if necessary, but I will not. The member brings up the crux of the issue. When I was door-knocking in the past election the most important matter for my constituents, consistently on every street, was equalization.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act  Madam Speaker, I would be happy to see this bill sent to committee once all members are satisfied that they have represented their constituents in the House on the matter.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act  Madam Speaker, as I was just saying, going back to Bill C-3 and the oversight propositions in the bill, and back to the Yiddish proverb, “for example” is not proof that this legislation needs to be before us at this very moment. It could have been cobbled and combined with other matters that the Government of Canada considered needed to be done to the Canada Border Services Agency.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act  Madam Speaker, I would like to thank the member for Edmonton West for bringing to the attention of the House the fact that so many rank and file members of CBSA do not feel comfortable going to their managers. This is something I have consistently seen, going into my second Parliament.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act  Madam Speaker, I want to thank my colleague from Lévis—Lotbinière for sharing his time with me so I could add my comments on the bill. I want to also thank my constituents for sending me here for a second term and for the trust they placed in me in the past election. Bill C-3 was in the last Parliament.

Natural Resources  Mr. Speaker, the Teck Frontier project represents an investment of $20.6 billion in northern Alberta's economy. Ten thousand jobs depend on this decision. If reconciliation with first nations means something, surely it means saying yes to economic development for indigenous peoples.

Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement Implementation Act  Madam Speaker, to address the points, sure we have been debating the concept of free trade, but not the details, the sausage itself, to go back to my Yiddish proverb once more. The details are where it is most important. That is where we reveal what has actually been debated in the past.

Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement Implementation Act  Madam Speaker, I thank the member for his question. He is right. There is nothing in the new NAFTA regarding softwood lumber. I would have liked to see a least a reference or a chapter on it, for the workers in this economic sector. It is a very important issue in northern Alberta.

Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement Implementation Act  Madam Speaker, I am always in danger if I agree with an NDP member. It might start a trend, but I will say, yes, but with conditions. It would be nice if we were involved earlier in the process. If he looks back to the Debates and the past free trade agreements, for many years different Parliaments have debated this and have said that members of Parliament should be more involved earlier in the process.

Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement Implementation Act  Madam Speaker, I thank my constituents again for sending me here for a second term to represent their interests and passions as well. I really believe that political parties are a way for people to organize their passions. Whatever side of the House we are on, we are motivated to do the best for our communities.

Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement Implementation Act  Madam Speaker, the member mentioned the modernization of an agreement, but I do not see anything in here about the buy America provisions the United States government often uses in its public procurement, especially to prevent Canadian bidders. I do not see a softwood lumber component to it.

Petitions  Madam Speaker, I have two petitions to table today from my constituents. The first petition is regarding increasing taxes. The petitioners are calling on the Liberal government to stop raising taxes on the middle class. They are specifically asking for a rejection by the Government of Canada on all new tax increases and to leave more money in the pockets of the people who earn it.

Petitions  Madam Speaker, the second petition comes from more of my constituents. The petitioners are asking for the repeal of Bill C-48 and Bill C-69. They draw the attention of the House of Commons to the fact that Canada has lost 7,000 kilometres of proposed pipeline. Well over 125,000 jobs and $100 billion in investments have been lost.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I want to thank the member for her remarks. She addressed a number of issues that were also raised by Conservative members. I think this is about more than just training for the members of the Parole Board who made this decision. It is also about the kind of judgment they have shown since 2017.
