COVID-19 Emergency Response  Mr. Speaker, I want to reiterate that the emergency wage subsidy is for businesses and SMEs that are worried they will have to choose between going bankrupt or laying off their employees. It is not for multi-millionaire political parties. On May 15, the finance minister announced that the emergency wage subsidy would be extended by three months until the end of August.

Immigration  Mr. Speaker, the migrant workers who are taking care of seniors in our long-term care facilities have proven that they are extraordinary. That is why we are asking that the government exceptionally give their applications priority and fast-track them. We moved a motion yesterday to ask the government to take action, but the Conservatives refused to support it.

Proceedings of the House and Committees  Mr. Speaker, I feel compelled to take this opportunity to talk about the issue of health transfers and remind the House that Quebec's minister of health and social services wrote to the Minister of Health to remind her that there was a problem when it comes to the transfers and that she was calling for those to be restored to 25%.

Proceedings of the House and Committees  Mr. Speaker, I understand that the Internet is not always readily available everywhere. I grew up without cable and with limited access to the Internet unfortunately. I do not believe it need be an argument to prevent us from working virtually. Returning to the House in person would also indirectly be a breach of parliamentary privilege for those who live far away, who might not have access to air travel or who may be older and fear for their health, which would be understandable.

Proceedings of the House and Committees  Mr. Speaker, I thank my esteemed colleague from La Prairie for sharing his time with me. I appreciate it. I am sometimes asked how I imagine us emerging from this crisis or what I hope we take from this crisis. I have thought about it and I think it is important that we all think about it a bit.

COVID-19 Emergency Response  Mr. Speaker, I seek the consent of the House to move the following motion: that this House recognize the contribution of hundreds of essential workers, particularly in the health care sector, in Quebec and elsewhere in Canada, who are asylum seekers, and call on the government to work with the Government of Quebec and the rest of Canada in order to prioritize and fast-track their file as well as that of their family in recognition of the work done during the current health crisis.

Staff at Quebec long-term care facilities  Mr. Speaker, I want to thank all staff working in Quebec's health care system. I want to thank all of the women and men who are dealing with the worst health crisis in a century. I would also like to give a special shout-out to the nearly 800 personal support workers on the front lines caring for our seniors in Quebec's long-term care facilities.

Health  Mr. Speaker, I also wish to convey our best wishes to Ms. GrĂ©goire for a speedy recovery. This morning, the National Assembly of Quebec expressed all Quebeckers' concern over the coronavirus when it unanimously called on the Government of Canada to implement a meaningful testing protocol for the coronavirus, or COVID-19, for everyone entering Canada by giving border services personnel the tools they need.

Health  Mr. Speaker, I have a question anyway. Municipalities are telling us that border security measures are inadequate. This has been confirmed by first responders, by customs officers and by travellers themselves. Today, Quebec's National Assembly unanimously declared that border controls need to be stepped up.

Health  Mr. Speaker, airports may have inadequate coronavirus screening measures, but our land crossings do not have any. There is no protocol for people arriving by train, bus or car. COVID-19 is no longer confined to overseas countries. It is also affecting our neighbour. Nearly 200 cases have been confirmed right on the other side of the border in New York state.

Health  Mr. Speaker, two days ago, customs officers at Lacolle suspected an individual arriving by train from New York had coronavirus, so what did they do? They called Lacolle's first responders but did not tell them they thought the person had coronavirus. There was no protocol in place for customs officials.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, our colleague from Winnipeg North is telling us with a great deal of conviction that choosing Friday as an allotted day for the Conservative Party was not intended as a punishment. However, on this side of the House, we have yet to hear the reason why this Friday was chosen when that is not common practice.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, although I spoke a little about this in my speech, I would like to reiterate the importance of opposition days. Above all, these days must provide the maximum amount of speaking time so that no aspect is overlooked. We have to ensure that we listen to everyone's point of view.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, parliamentary tradition dictates that opposition days do not fall on a Wednesday or a Friday. I believe my colleague is aware of that. In that regard, we have not been given any explanation as to why the Conservative opposition day is being held today. The explanation might have been acceptable.
