Health committee  Monsieur Malo wants to know if you could answer the question on your research not really being addressed by the government of Greece. Monsieur Malo, would you please continue?

Health committee  I would like to know how the Greek government reacted to the publication of your study. In addition, what standards are applied in Greece? I could also address the same question to Dr. Goldsworthy.

Health committee  What was the reaction of the Greek government to the limits that were set in Greece...?

Agriculture committee  Perhaps like the garment industry we'll be moving agriculture offshore. I see now we import from Mexico. Now we bring in food from Israel, from Greece, from wherever. Get the corporations owning the land. They're moving into that now. They control the price of the inputs. They're controlling prices that we get for our products. It goes on and on.

Finance committee  We're one of the lowest, which I interpret as very good news. There are an awful lot of problems in the European Union, as we know; Greece is essentially insolvent. And underlying a lot of the problems in Europe are unsustainable and extraordinarily generous pension plans. I'm jumping now to the home ownership data. Approximately 68% of Canadians own their own homes, which is one of the highest figures in the world.

Citizenship and Immigration  There are indeed countries in which there is a presumption that refugee claims will probably not be as strong as in other countries, which is the reason that modern western liberal democracies like Denmark, Finland, Sweden, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, the Netherlands have all adopted—

Citizenship and Immigration  Even the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees said that it is legitimate for countries to have an accelerated process for countries deemed safe, such as France, Finland, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Norway, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. They all have the same accelerated process as we do for claimants from safe countries of origin.

Children's Events  The fourth annual Biennale Portrait Competition, which is a worldwide children's art exhibition held in Greece, had over 141,000 children from over 141 countries participating. I would like to commend Nobleton Junior Public School students, Ashley Keown and Sam Walker, for their first place finish, and, not to be outdone, Nathan Cameron, Tyler Cameron and Carly Panneton, who won second place in this competition, which is another reason that I am so proud to represent the good people of Oak Ridges--Markham.

Seeds Regulations Act  Here are just a few other indications that the controversy is far from over. Currently, six EU member states, Austria, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary and Luxembourg, have imposed bans on growing GM corn even though it has been approved by the European Commission. On March 8, the Swiss parliament extended its national moratorium on the cultivation of GM plants by three years to 2013.

Resumption of debate on Address in Reply  Speaker, I have listened carefully to the Leader of the Opposition's comments on the throne speech. If we were in ancient Greece he might get some points for rhetoric, but I do not think I would give him too many points for content. As the Leader of the Opposition, he claims that his group is the government in waiting.

International Trade committee  The third point is that since the EU is a priority of this government, having that as a focus--John, you've made that point--it seems to me that we have to go, from a review standpoint, in a direction, at this stage, with this government, where it's looking to go. So I think EU makes a ton of sense. Did I tell you how much I love Greece, John? Just an observation.

Paralympic Flame Torchbearers  Today, in celebration of the upcoming Paralympic Games, we are proud to welcome the Olympic flame and torch here in the chamber of the House of Commons. The flame was lit on October 22, 2009, at the ruins of Olympia in Greece, the ancestral home of the Games. At the original Olympic Stadium in Athens, the flame was handed over to Canadian Olympic and Paralympic organizers. Since touching Canadian ground in Victoria, British Columbia on October 30, the Olympic flame has visited many communities across our country.
