An Act to Amend the Criminal Code and to make related amendments to other Acts (medical assistance in dying)  Madam Speaker, any health care accord that respects Quebec's prerogatives would be most welcome. Since the devil is always in the details, we would have to see what it says. Getting back to the debate, I would say that palliative care does not address all the problems associated with the end of life.

An Act to Amend the Criminal Code and to make related amendments to other Acts (medical assistance in dying)  Madam Speaker, I would first like to thank the Minister of Health for sharing her time with me. This clearly demonstrates that she believes in fair play and democracy, since she knows that I am opposed to the motion and the bill. That being said, I am wondering how I will say everything I have to say in 10 minutes.

An Act to Amend the Criminal Code and to make related amendments to other Acts (medical assistance in dying)  Mr. Speaker, I listened carefully to the minister. I would say that this was not her best argument in defence of Bill C-14. She seems to be confusing the concepts of being suicidal and assisted suicide. She also claims that adopting the definition in Senator Joyal's amendment and the terms in the Carter decision would put us on a slippery slope, giving people who are suddenly suffering access to medical assistance in dying.

Battling Cancer in Montcalm  Mr. Speaker, people in my riding do not hold back when it comes to battling cancer. In the past two weeks, the relays for life in the RCMs of Montcalm and Les Moulins and the Saint-Jacques firefighters' shaved head challenge all exceeded expectations. In just two weeks, hundreds of participants and volunteers helped raise nearly $600,000 to fight cancer.

Natural Resources  Mr. Speaker, this morning, I talked about the petitions signed by 25,000 Quebeckers who are saying “no” to energy east. According to another electronic petition of the House, 257 Quebeckers are in favour of energy east. Therefore, 10,000% more Quebeckers oppose energy east. There is no social licence in Quebec for this project and there never will be.

Petitions  Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to stand today to present an electronic petition signed by 16,822 people. The petition calls on the House to respect the wishes of Quebeckers and the National Assembly of Quebec, refrain from turning Quebec into an oil sands superhighway, respect Quebec's environmental jurisdiction, and put an end to TransCanada's energy east pipeline.

Natural Resources  Mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister may be hiding his position on energy east, but the Parliamentary Secretary to the Leader of the Government has no such qualms. As recently as Friday, he said, and I quote, “This government has put a process in place to see future pipelines get done”.

Physician-Assisted Dying  Mr. Speaker, the Senate amended Bill C-14 by deleting the criterion of reasonably foreseeable death in order to allow the most vulnerable to have access to medical assistance in dying. That is what the Barreau du Québec, the lawyers for the Carter family, the eminent constitutional law expert Peter Hogg, the Bloc Québécois, and the NDP were calling for all along.

Physician-Assisted Dying  Mr. Speaker, the minister is avoiding this fundamental question, and I will put it to her in another way. Given that medical assistance in dying can only be accessed as a result of a freely given and informed request that is strictly voluntary, on what basis is the minister assuming the authority to oppose the will and the autonomy of the most vulnerable people in our society, those who are in unbearable pain, knowing that she is imposing on them the inhumane burden of a hunger strike, or of having to win their case in court?

Temporary Foreign Workers  Mr. Speaker, more than 200 Quebec farmers are still waiting for foreign workers to arrive in order to harvest their crops. At present, 1,000 workers are required. In my riding alone, Les Frères Riopel family farm has lost almost $5,000 in crops to date, and it is not the only one.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, the members who spoke earlier mentioned the debate that took place back in the day as to whether the Bloc Québécois had the right to sit in the House. I was therefore saying that millions of Quebeckers have voted for the Bloc Québécois over the past 25 years. I would also like to point out to my colleagues that, at one time, the Bloc Québécois was the official opposition.
