Petitions  Mr. Speaker, I present a petition on behalf of my constituents. The petition is with respect to the genocide that is taking place in the Darfur region of Sudan, which has caused the deaths of approximately of 300,000 people and 2 million or more have been displaced. The petitioners call upon the government to put pressure on the Sudanese government to allow for additional peacekeeping troops in that region, to pressure the Sudanese government to begin peace talks and to increase the land based humanitarian efforts in that region as well.

The petitioners ask Parliament to take measures to eliminate the health and safety risks associated with community mailboxes by reinstating door-to-door mail delivery service in all neighbourhoods across Canada.

Infrastructure  Mr. Speaker, Canadians expect the government to act in a fair, accountable and transparent manner, especially when it is facing the biggest job losses in recorded history. However, it seems that 78% of all the infrastructure projects in the building Canada fund have been allocated to Conservative ridings.

Infrastructure  Mr. Speaker, the minister thinks he is being funny, but the 234,000 Canadians who lost their jobs are not laughing. Canadians have seen that they cannot trust the Conservative government. In my own riding of Mississauga—Brampton South, the Conservatives have announced and re-announced the same transit funding again and again.

Terrorism  Mr. Speaker, yesterday we watched in horror as terrorists attacked targets throughout the Indian city of Mumbai. The terrorists killed indiscriminately and, according to recent reports, have taken Canadian hostages. Canada has strong personal links to India and there are many Canadian families, including many of my constituents who are at home right now trying to call loved ones to ensure they are safe and sound.

Special Import Measures Act  moved for leave to introduce Bill C-574, An Act to amend the Special Import Measures Act (environmental costs). Mr. Speaker, this bill would help to make it easier for Canadian companies to compete globally by complying with our environmental legislation and regulations. It would ensure that foreign companies that export to Canada are penalized when their home governments refuse to enforce their own environmental laws in order to subsidize their products when cases of dumping are considered.

Privilege  Mr. Speaker, I listened very carefully to the comments made by the member for Nepean—Carleton. Based on his remarks, I would like to ask him if he could table the book on dirty tricks that the government whip provided. That would really tell us what a partisan chair is all about.

Carbon Tax Proposal  Mr. Speaker, yesterday the Leader of the Opposition launched a new debate. It is a debate about building a richer, greener and fairer Canada. The Liberal Party believes that it is time we put a price on pollution and put every single penny back into the hands of Canadians. Polluters will pay and Canadians will gain.

Canada-U.S. Relations  Mr. Speaker, we all know the report of the NAFTA-gate leak was a whitewash. The CTV reporter who spoke to the Prime Minister's chief of staff was never interviewed. Americans with access to the leaked report were never spoken to. The Associated Press who received the leaked memo never even received a call.

Canada-U.S. Relations  Mr. Speaker, the House leader can try to hide behind the flawed Lynch report but there is still a leak in the government. Today the Prime Minister's chief of staff refused to tell the committee the identities of the mysterious PMO officials who had the report a full day before he did.

Canada-U.S. Relations  Mr. Speaker, there is still a leak in the government, one that has hurt our international reputation. On February 27, two PMO officials, identified in the report only as official one and two, were given the memo, a day before Ian Brodie had access to it. Oddly enough, these officials are not identified by either their names or titles, unlike the others in the report.

Canada-U.S. Relations  Mr. Speaker, the government continues to blame the bureaucracy for NAFTA-gate, saying that there were too many emails on the distribution list for the leaked memo. It sounds easy, but where is the motive? It was the Conservative Party and its Republican masters that had the most to gain from this leak.

Canada-U.S. Relations  Mr. Speaker, let me read from the report that the House leader is hiding behind. It says: During the course of the investigation, the names of a few U.S. citizens who were not employed by the Government of Canada were raised as having been possibly in contact with Canadian officials with access to the report....interviewing these U.S. citizens was beyond the scope of this investigation...

Canada-U.S. Relations  Mr. Speaker, as John McCain prepares to come to Ottawa, we are reminded how the Conservative government refuses to answer questions surrounding an investigation of the NAFTA-gate leaks. Frank Sensenbrenner, a Republican operative embedded inside the Canadian embassy, has been fingered as the potential source of the leaked memo, which has damaged both Barack Obama's campaign and Canada's international reputation.

National Blood Donor Week  Mr. Speaker, this is National Blood Donor Week which we officially celebrate for the first time this year after a bill initiated in the other place received royal assent on February 14. I am proud to have been the House sponsor for that piece of legislation. All hon. members should understand the importance of blood donation to our health care system.
