COVID-19 Emergency Response  Mr. Speaker, there is a problem with the interpretation, and I did not hear the question or the response.

Citizenship Act  Mr. Speaker, obviously, I will be voting in favour of Bill C-8. It is a good bill, but I am wondering whether the Liberals are avoiding implementing more practical measures that would do more to improve the lives of indigenous people. I am thinking of two things in particular. The first is the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, the hon. member for Saint-Hyacinthe—Bagot forgot to mention that he will be sharing his time with the member for Pierre-Boucher—Les Patriotes—Verchères.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I am a little shocked after listening to the speech by the member for Marc-Aurèle-Fortin. It was completely off topic. In life, I can walk and chew gum at the same time. I can deal with the pandemic and take eight seconds to apologize to the 497 Quebeckers who were victims of the war measures.

Intergovernmental Relations  Mr. Speaker, in hindsight, the use of the War Measures Act has been criticized by members of all parties. The Liberal justice minister, John Turner, opposed it, and Pierre Elliott Trudeau's Quebec lieutenant, Jean Marchand, described it as being like using a cannon to kill a fly.

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, as a matter of fact, I believe that the effect of this bill will be to promote these conversations with the community. I do not think conversations will be hindered because of it. This bill does not prevent anyone, no matter their age, from discussing and advocating for their rights.

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for his question. With regard to this legislation being challenged in the courts, I think that we need to start by passing the bill. Then we will see what happens. I sincerely believe that we need to fight against the barbaric practice of conversion therapy, which should not still be happening in 2020.

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, I thank the member for Beauce for his question. I completely agree with him. The prorogation of Parliament had an impact on many bills and on all of the committees that had to stop their work. I am joining the Standing Committee on the Status of Women to resume the work that had to be stopped because of prorogation.

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for his question. I think there will be other communities we can look at, but today we are debating Bill C-6, which focuses specifically on conversion therapy, to help the LGBTQ+ community. That is what is important today. The message is for that community.

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, I am very proud to rise today to speak to Bill C-6, which amends the Criminal Code with regard to conversion therapy. I already had the opportunity to speak to this subject some time ago in response to the Minister of Diversity and Inclusion and Youth, and that, too, was an honour for me.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, we all know that religious groups and religious pressure are behind these conversion therapy practices. There is a myth that homosexuality is a sickness and that it leads straight to hell. The Pope himself has recognized same-sex civil unions, so I would like to hear about why we must move faster to eradicate these prejudices.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for her speech. During the last session, I had the honour of sitting with her on the Standing Committee on the Status of Women, where we discussed gender equality. Today, we are debating conversion therapy. Much has been said about the fact that women were hit particularly hard by the pandemic, as was another community.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague. I think he spoke about transparency. I would like to repeat a Danish word I used this week: samfundssind. It is the lack of transparency that is at the heart of today's motion. In some countries where the health crisis was better managed, nothing was considered more important than putting the best interests of the people before one's personal interests and even before the interests of friends and associates, through cronyism and all the rest.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for his speech. We can agree on the fact that we are going through a public health crisis that requires heavy investment in health care. As the critic for status of women and seniors, I have been hearing a lot about that. People tell me that, in order to provide care to everyone, we need more PPE and support workers, and we need to pay support workers better.
