Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, today I am pleased to speak to Bill C-7, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (medical assistance in dying), which I will refer to as MAID throughout the course of my speech. This can be a difficult issue for many to address because it intersects several issues in society.

Health  Mr. Speaker, never before in parliamentary history has the creation of a committee become a confidence motion. That is all on the Prime Minister. We are in the middle of the pandemic. He has shut businesses down and there are restrictions on gathering sizes. On October 6, Elections Canada said it needed at least four months to prepare for a general election in the middle of the pandemic.

Health  Mr. Speaker, let us be really clear. This threat of an election is all about the Prime Minister wanting to go to an election. He is out there doing this and that. However, he did not answer the question. We have restrictions across the country on the size of gatherings. He is asking Canadians to sacrifice, and he is not willing right now to say if he consulted with Dr.

Health  Mr. Speaker, today, with tens of thousands of businesses closed across the country and limits on gatherings everywhere, the Prime Minister is on the edge of calling an unnecessary election to cover up his scandal. Polling locations for a federal election are often in schools or community centres, even in long-term care facilities and hospitals where there are restrictions related to COVID-19.

Health  Mr. Speaker, I am tired of headlines such as this one: “Bureaucracy keeping dying Winnipeg man and his brother apart”. It has been nine months since the start of the COVID crisis, and the Liberals only use shutdowns and a 14-day quarantine, which nobody can afford, as ways to address the pandemic.

Health  Mr. Speaker, the health committee would be a great way to review the science and evidence, yet the Liberals are blocking the review of this issue at every turn. It has been 10 days since we introduced a motion on this, and they keep filibustering it. Right now, there are thousands of airline workers who know that a bailout is not going to save their jobs.

Health  Mr. Speaker, I would like to know why the Liberals chose to shut down Canada's early pandemic warning system and what impact it had on the spread of COVID-19 in Canada. I would like to know why rapid testing for COVID will not be widely available in Canada until well into next year.

Health  Mr. Speaker, that was a patronizing answer. I have had that briefing, and it was less than illuminating. I have been standing here for days asking the minister questions and there are no answers. I am convinced she does not know. I am doing my job. I am trying to get these documents and bring them to light so the public has answers.

Health  Madam Speaker, this morning, provinces are reporting a record number of new coronavirus cases, and a second closure of restaurants is likely imminent. Around the world, experts are using frequent COVID tests to provide results within 15 minutes to prevent business and school closures, but not in Canada.

Health  Madam Speaker, I would challenge somebody watching this in Toronto who is worried about their business closing to go out right now and try to get a rapid test with results in 15 minutes and see who is presenting the right information here. That answer was very deceptive and incompetent.

Health  Madam Speaker, if a woman watching this today has been laid off because of COVID restrictions or her kid's school has been shut down and she tried to get a rapid, frequent COVID test or her kid's school tried to do that, they could not. That is the reality in Canada. Rapid tests keep schools open.

Health  Mr. Speaker, to be clear, the minister considers a 10-day wait for tests to be rapid. It is ridiculous. The reality is that somebody standing in line waiting for the results in any part of the country today is not going to have access to a rapid test because the minister has failed to do her job.

Health  Mr. Speaker, today we found out that some Quebec schools have had to resort to using private firms to test their teachers for COVID and keep their students safe because the Prime Minister has failed to get rapid tests into their hands. Our publicly funded health care system, which, to be very clear, the Conservative Party strongly supports, is breaking down because the Prime Minister has failed to do his job and get these tests into the hands of Canadians when other countries around the world did so months ago.

Health  Mr. Speaker, the government has done such a great job that some provinces have had to send tests to California to be processed. It has done such a great job that people are waiting 10 days for their results. Now we are seeing Quebec schools having to use private firms, against the notion of publicly funded health care in Canada, because of its failure to procure tests.

Judges Act  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for her work, collegiality and friendship to me. I wish I had two hours for this. I do not. This is my lived experience. I think I scare people because I am really good at what I do. I do not tolerate things that are unjust, I do not tolerate cowardice, and I do not apologize for that.
