Taxation  Mr. Speaker, now that we have caught them covering up the real cost of their carbon tax and who will pay it, it raises the question about their job-killing tax on home builders, health care, small business and farmers. The president of real estate company RE/MAX said that “it's just not true” that just the rich will pay; it will “penalize...average Canadians”.

Budget Implementation Act, 2024, No. 1  We are seeing yearly inflation rates for many food products in the double digits, while a record two million Canadians had to use a food bank in a single month last year, which is incredible. Let us not forget the pesky carbon tax that compounds through the economy, costing over $30 billion of economic activity, as recently highlighted by the Parliamentary Budget Officer. Therefore, not only is it costing us every time we make a purchase, but it is costing our economy $30 billion in output.

Budget Implementation Act, 2024, No. 1  What, in the budget, have the Liberals allocated to ensure that seniors are able to live? They have not done anything with a carbon tax. The Liberals planned this dental plan, which is great, but if people do not have food or a place to live, how are they supposed to support themselves?

Carbon Tax  Speaker, the ministry of truth has assured Canadians that they are better off because of the carbon tax. It costs them nothing, and in fact, they are getting richer because of it. However, a few weeks ago, we learned from the Parliamentary Budget Officer that the government has a secret report on the carbon tax.

Carbon Tax  For weeks now, the Liberals have been refusing to provide their secret report on the cost of the carbon tax to Canadian families. This is a desperate and malicious attempt to hide their own data that shows that Canadians are worse off under the disastrous, inflationary carbon tax. The carbon tax pain will cost nearly $2,000 per household in lost GDP, a $30.5-billion hit to our economy.

Business of Supply  Everything Canadians buy is more expensive because of the carbon tax. No matter how the Liberals try to spin it, we know that most Canadians pay more in carbon tax than they get back in these phony rebates. The Liberals do not like talking about the carbon tax anymore, because they know it does not work.

Business of Supply  After the increase, Ontario farmers will be paying $53 million in carbon taxes. By 2030, that total will be $566 million in carbon taxes. One farm in Simcoe—Grey paid $25,000 in carbon taxes in one month. There is no way that farmers can be economically viable under the pressure of those costs.

Business of Supply  Then the Liberals refused to give families a summer break from the carbon tax so they could afford just a simple road trip. The Liberals are not done taxing Canadians. They plan to quadruple the carbon tax over the next six years, which would make everything even more expensive.

Carbon Pricing  He repeatedly stood in the House and misled Canadians, saying that they would be better off financially with the carbon tax, all the while covering up the fact that the Liberal-NDP carbon tax will cost Canadians more than $30 billion a year. Instead of working to increase the economic vandalism of the carbon tax, why does the environment minister not just do Canadians a favour and resign?

Carbon Pricing  Madam Speaker, the NDP-Liberal government misled Canadians by claiming they would be better off with a carbon tax scam. It turns out that the environment minister's own carbon tax data shows that it will cost families nearly $2,000 more after the higher costs on groceries, home heating and gas.

Business of Supply  The figure for Quebec is $5.25 billion. I had to wonder. The figure for Quebec is $5.25 billion, but the carbon tax does not apply there, so these are all indirect effects of the carbon tax. Quebec will therefore have more indirect effects from the carbon tax than Alberta as a whole. That is what the Conservatives are saying.

Carbon Pricing  Madam Speaker, after nine years of the NDP-Liberal government, the truth is out about its punishing carbon tax. A partial government report leaked by the Liberals to the marketing arm of the Liberal Party of Canada, the CBC, revealed that, when factoring for inflation, the Liberal carbon tax will leave a $30-billion hole in our economic activity.

Business of Supply  The carbon tax is driving up the cost there as well. In aviation, there is a carbon tax on plane fuel, and airlines use tens of billions of litres. The government is driving up the cost of every mode of transportation and driving up the cost of living.

Business of Supply  However, not everyone lives up to that responsibility. Today is another Conservative opposition day on the carbon tax where we are hearing nonsense. Earlier, a member even referred to the line of the report that gives the projected impact the federal carbon tax would have in 2030, if it applied in Quebec.
