Housing  Since 2015, our government has supported the creation of nearly 100,000 new affordable housing units, and we have repaired over 300,000 more across different housing programs, representing over $27.4 billion of investments. We have absolutely no lessons to take from a party that completely ignored affordable housing in all its years in power. We are not stopping there. Budget 2021 plans to invest an additional $2.5 billion and reallocate further investments to repair—

Housing  They did not support people through the Canada housing benefit, which we introduced. We have no lessons to take from the Conservatives on this issue.

Housing  Every other day we are making announcements either to build new affordable housing units or repair existing units, or to introduce the Canada housing benefit in yet another province. We have no lessons to take on affordable housing and housing affordability from the Conservatives.

Housing  I could keep going, but the party opposite has absolutely no shame on this issue because it has no credibility and no lessons to give us.

Taxation  Mr. Speaker, the Conservatives refuse to take no for an answer. The Government of Canada is not looking at charging capital gains tax on primary residences. This is not under consideration by our government. Any suggestion otherwise is false.

Child Care  Speaker, we understand the immense pressure that COVID-19 has put on Canadian families, particularly parents. We are committed to being there for parents throughout this crisis to ensure that they take care of themselves, their children and their families. That is why we introduced a series of measures to help families through this pandemic, but we also introduced measures to help the child care sector.

Human Resources committee  We know that homeless Canadians are among our country's most vulnerable, and our government believes that no one anywhere in Canada should be left without a place to call home. That is why we are the first government in Canadian history to take responsibility and [Technical difficulty—Editor] additional investments of nearly $400 million under Reaching Home. In the fall economic statement, we would sustain our support into 2021 with an additional investment of nearly $300 million.

Human Resources committee  Now, if the proponents in London also bring additional dollars, land or other incentives to the table, we could produce even more units in London. Secondly, the municipality and the non-profits of London, Ontario, can also take advantage of the second envelope within the rapid housing initiative—another $500 million—for any projects that exceed the allocation for London in the first envelope of the municipal stream.

Human Resources committee  There is no more difficult loss than that of losing a child, and of course, our government recognizes that compassion and understanding at the onset is key to ensuring that families get the support they need during this really difficult time. The EI sickness benefit is available to help eligible parents take up to 15 weeks off work to support them through the grieving process. We've also modernized the Canada Labour Code to make sure that federally regulated private sector employers offer grieving employees the time off they need to deal with their loss.

Human Resources committee  We have to provide supports for training and provide tuition supports, bursaries, wage top-ups—whatever it takes—to make sure that this is a sector that is supported. This is because, without them, it will be difficult to increase the affordable spaces and it will be difficult to deliver high-quality child care.

Human Resources committee  Yes, I can take that. Thank you for the question. As was promised during the last election, we promised Canadians living in the greater Toronto area, the greater Vancouver area and the Victoria region that, due to their local circumstances, we will increase the threshold amount of the first-time homebuyer incentive to take into account their local circumstances.

Human Resources committee  Yes, the reason we moved ahead on the emergency community support fund was that we heard from the community-based organizations that were providing really important work and delivering important services, as well as food and medicine, to the most vulnerable in our communities. But the same organizations that we rely on to take care of the most vulnerable in our country were, themselves, facing pressures, whether it was a drop in donations, a drop in volunteers, or sometimes facing new costs that they did not have to face before.

Human Resources committee  Each project is looked at based on its merits. The one area in the country where we have put set-asides in the co-investment fund to take into account the particular challenges of building affordable housing is the territories, so there is an amount of money in the co-investment fund set aside for the territories, but beyond that it's an application-based process and each project is assessed on its own merits.

COVID-19 Pandemic and Other Matters  Madam Chair, we have approved over 70,000 Canada summer jobs for young people this year. We are ensuring that more employers take part in the program. We know the value that program brings, not just to employers but, more important, to the young people who take part in it.
