Budget Implementation Act, 2023, No. 1  Mr. Speaker, I got to spend some time with the member and, like me, he has had many different jobs. I have worked in restaurants where I had to clean the bathrooms. I have worked so many jobs in my life just to try to get ahead, and I think work experience is a really important thing.

Budget Implementation Act, 2023, No. 1  Mr. Speaker, it is so interesting that when the only Black person on this side stands up to talk, the member brings up blackface. I think it is ridiculous. They are a joke on that side. They bring up issues in the House on economic policy, but a Black person stands up and he brings up this issue—

It is always a great honour for me to stand in the House to speak on behalf of the great people of Don Valley East, representing communities such as Wynford, Flemingdon Park, Don Mills, Fenside and Victoria Village.

Budget Implementation Act, 2023, No. 1  Mr. Speaker, the hon. member and I share a border. Our ridings are next to each other. I am always aware of the great work that she is doing with young people in her community, with her youth council and with the local schools. In the budget and past initiatives, we have seen $10-a-day child care and dental relief.

The Budget  Mr. Speaker, while I listened to the member's speech, I was thinking a lot about many of the benefits we put forward to help young people in this country, specifically children and youth, when it comes to the dental program, interest relief on student debt, the child benefit and child care in general.

The Budget  Mr. Speaker, I got involved in politics so we could put in place better programs for young people. In this budget, we have talked a lot about dental care, removing interest rates on student loans and investing in young people through child care. Why is it, from the member's perspective, so important for us to invest in the next generation in this budget?

Eva Smith  Mr. Speaker, it gives me great pleasure today to rise in the House to speak about an extraordinary Canadian during Black History Month. Eva Smith was a tireless advocate in my community of Don Valley East and worked so hard to fight for the rights of young people who are homeless.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, the member said that the best the government could do sometimes was to get out of the way. Imagine if government got out of the way when we looked at public education in provinces and in the country. What if government got out of the way during nationalizing universal health care or got out of the way during the pandemic?

Infrastructure  Mr. Speaker, last Friday, in partnership with the Province of Ontario and the City of Toronto, the federal government announced a combined investment of $1.5 billion for the TTC's Bloor-Yonge station expansion and rehabilitation project. Can the Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities please update this House on the improvements we will see at the station and the importance of making transit more accessible and reliable for all Canadians?

Federal Framework on Autism Spectrum Disorder Act  Madam Speaker, I am proud to stand here today on behalf of the residents of Don Valley East to join my colleague in supporting Bill S-203. I was very proud to be asked to join this coalition of great parliamentarians who are working hard in the Senate and in the House of Commons to really move an issue forward that is long overdue.

Fall Economic Statement Implementation Act, 2022  Mr. Speaker, I am proud to be part of a government that is prepared to invest in indigenous communities and to work as partners to build a better country. In fact, I would suggest that we should probably spend more money supporting indigenous communities, rather than looking at ways to make cuts like the Conservatives have done in the past.

Fall Economic Statement Implementation Act, 2022  Madam Speaker, I want to take this opportunity to thank the people of Don Valley East for providing me with the privilege of speaking in the House. My riding is a remarkable community. It is very diverse culturally, in education and in professions. There are so many differences in my community, but despite all of these differences, we have the same set of values.

Mental Health  Madam Chair, the member and I do work on the committee together. I know his question is sincere, and he has a sincere approach to looking for solutions, so I want to thank him for the work he is doing. The member has really spoken to an issue that is widespread. Not only in Ontario, across this country or in America, but also around the world, there is a stigma that has been traditionally attached to mental health funding.

Mental Health  Madam Chair, this issue of mental health is such a complex issue. The layers of complexity go from very simple solutions to very complex solutions. I will not stand here as a member of Parliament and give the member medical advice on what someone should be doing. That is up to doctors.
