Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, thanks very much to the member for Edmonton Strathcona for the question. I know the city well, having lived there when I served in the Canadian Armed Forces. This speaks to the speed at which programs have rolled out. In the beginning, the Conservative opposition was looking for more direct support in terms of returning GST remittances from the government right back into businesses' pockets to allow them to prepare for the storm.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, in my riding, farmers and people who have to travel long distances do not have the benefit of public transit. They would all benefit from freezing the carbon tax. The abolition of the carbon tax is not specifically proposed in this motion, but I must say, a strong Canadian natural resource sector is good for the whole world.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, what businesses want are details, as I said early on. I did not give an exhaustive list of the programs that were introduced this year. Some of them have been helpful and some of them held promise, but were introduced too late or with details that were light. Of the ones that have helped businesses, I have heard thanks and requests for more from constituents and businesses here, but we need to have a plan going forward and to have that legislation in place before the new year.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, it is a pleasure to join the debate today. I am joining from Brockville, Ontario. We are discussing a very important matter. The measures that are proposed in our opposition day motion have been mentioned by the previous speakers and my colleagues, and they are incredibly important.

Questions Passed as Orders for Returns  With regard to the Canada Emergency Commercial Rent Assistance: (a) how much did the government pay (i) MCAP, (ii) First Canadian Title (FCT), to deliver the program; and (b) what specific deliverables did MCAP and FCT provide to the government in relation to the program?

Bravery  Mr. Speaker, I am rising today to bring a display of bravery of a very high order to the attention of the House. On the evening of August 7 of this year, at the Newboro lock station in the Township of Rideau Lakes, lockmaster Dylan Carbino was taking a phone call when he noticed heat, fast-moving black smoke and calls of fire from a moored boat that had burst into flames.

Ethics  Madam Speaker, I thank the parliamentary secretary for his comments. This government has clearly been in no hurry to pass legislation. The official opposition asked the government to have regular sittings in a hybrid format throughout the summer, and that the House not rise for the summer.

Ethics  Madam Speaker, it has been a bit of a custom of mine over the last couple of weeks, during Adjournment Proceedings, to bring good news to the House, and tonight is no exception. My sister and her husband, just last week, welcomed their first-born. Beatrice MacDonald was born to my sister Allie and her husband Kyle MacDonald.

Ethics  Now I do want to talk about time, and I thank my colleague for mentioning that. For over 40 hours, we had Liberal members filibuster committees to prevent the truth. Opposition members wanted to continue the work that parliamentarians had agreed to undertake during the beginning of this Parliament's first session.

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, I appreciated the member's example about the disabled individual who had a very different experience than a Canadian without a disability might experience. I heard a similar story about an individual who, it was apparent, had a physical disability and when suffering a seizure, the very first question asked was if they had a do not resuscitate, DNR, order.

Petitions  Madam Speaker, I am pleased to rise today on behalf of petitioners who are calling on the Government of Canada to formally recognize that Uighurs in China have been and are being subjected to an ongoing genocide, and that the government use the Justice for Victims of Corrupt Foreign Officials Act or Magnitsky sanctions to address this.

Ethics  Mr. Speaker, we know the Prime Minister's usual reaction when the RCMP come calling with questions about his corruption or ethical breaches of his Liberal colleagues. He rips the phone out of the wall and locks the door, blocking them at every step. Last week, we heard from the lobbying commissioner that there were three illegal lobbying inquiries sent to the RCMP since the start of this pandemic.

Ethics  Mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister does not need to take my word for it. Conservatives are not making it up. It is the lobbying commissioner who has said that there are RCMP investigations into illegal lobbying by the government. It is clear that Liberals play fast and loose with the ethical and lobbying rules, and they are being investigated.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, the government had an obligation to review their initial medical assistance in dying legislation, but tells us that COVID-19 is the reason those reviews were not completed prior to passing this legislation. However, instead of challenging the decision of the court, and instead of only acting as far as the court had suggested, the government has gone much further, and has done so without properly consulting with Canadians and stakeholder groups.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, the parliamentary secretary raised the issue of offering MAID. In that initial period, access to palliative care is limited or not offered to many. We have heard that the government has made investments in palliative care, but they are not enough. Before there is an established infrastructure and a law that puts death as the first offer and option, we should invest and enshrine supports for care, compassion and life.
