Health  Mr. Speaker, this week the Liberal government has used in their talking points, over and over again, the need to quote scientists. Let me quote the government's top scientist to the member across. Dr. Supriya Sharma said that only “hundreds of thousands” of tests would be arriving up until the end of this year.

Health  Mr. Speaker, here is the reality. There is such a big backlog in Ontario and Quebec for testing that the Prime Minister is telling people that they are going to have to miss Thanksgiving dinner and that they are not going to be able to visit their elderly parents in long-term care facilities.

Health  Mr. Speaker, that is great. Liberals get their test results in hours but Kim MacInnis has to wait for five days for her kid's. That is how it works with the government: a contract for Frank Baylis and special test results for the parliamentary secretary. The government needs to start standing with regular Canadians.

Health  Mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister shut down the system that was supposed to warn us about pandemics, and he costs people their lives and their jobs. The Prime Minister kept our borders open, knowing that the virus was entering our cities, and he cost people their lives and their jobs.

Health  Mr. Speaker, I stand with Kim MacInnis in Dartmouth who had to take five days off of work to wait for her toddler's COVID results. The best that this guy can do is stammer through his minister's talking points, which lose something in translation from Beijing. He sat by and did nothing while the Liberals sent precious masks to other countries while our doctors went without.

Health  Mr. Speaker, right now nobody in Canada, not a single person, has access to rapid testing. That is a failure of the government. Today the Prime Minister did not answer the question from the Leader of the Opposition, which is what everyone is asking: When are we going to have access to this?

Health  Mr. Speaker, the reality is that the Prime Minister of Canada is responsible for making testing for COVID-19 an elitist principle in Canada. That is the reality right now. In Canada, somebody who wants to visit their father with Alzheimer's in a long-term care facility has to stand in line for eight hours and then isolate for days to get their test results before they can take that compassionate step.

COVID-19 Response Measures Act  Mr. Speaker, I worry about seniors in Canada. I worry about my mother. I worry about how I am going to be a caregiver to my parents as I do this job. I worry about so many people and what has happened with the long-term care facilities in Canada right now during the pandemic. What we should be doing here is having a discourse of thought on how we can solve these problems for Canadians.

COVID-19 Response Measures Act  Mr. Speaker, I think it is deliberately intentional that we overlook that stuff because, to be honest, the plight of people who suffer only comes to this place when it becomes politically inconvenient. That is what is wrong with our system in Canada right now. We are at a place in our nation's history where people have actually forgotten the power they hold because they have been conditioned to think what we are getting here is sufficient, that a daily ration from the government is what Canada is capable of.

COVID-19 Response Measures Act  Madam Speaker, I will be splitting my time with the member for Barrie—Innisfil. Before I came here at this late hour, I watched something that I am having trouble processing right now. That is the coverage of the death of a first nation woman, Joyce Echaquan. It should trouble all of us.

Health  Mr. Speaker, there are people in Montreal today who are being faced with another economic lockdown. It has been seven months. Standing up here and saying that is not going to fix the problem. We do not have these tests, yet other countries around the world do. That is because of incompetence.

Health  Mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister just talked about wanting Canadians to do their part with contact tracing very enthusiastically, but that is really easy for him to do given his privilege. The reality is that somebody wanting a test has to wait in line for hours right now and then might have to isolate for days, taking time away from work and family members.

Health  Mr. Speaker, the health minister agreed to pay $237 million to Baylis Medical for 10,000 ventilators, even though the devices were not approved in any jurisdiction. Baylis Medical, of course, is Frank Baylis, the former Liberal MP. Why was there a fast track for Mr. Baylis's device, but no fast track for the rapid testing that every Canadian needs right now?

Health  Mr. Speaker, the member literally said nothing, and while he said nothing, there are women waiting in line who cannot afford to take time off from work today to get a COVID-19 test. Some former Liberal MP gets his stuff fast-tracked, but rapid tests do not happen. That is just garbage.
