Women and Gender Equality  Mr. Speaker, the Collectif 8 mars celebrated International Women's Day with the theme “Feminist with All of Our Might”. That might is something we still need, now more than ever, I would say, because we are all growing more aware of the inequality and injustice that women still face.

Simon Thibault  Mr. Speaker, I would like to pay tribute to one of my constituents, Simon Thibault, who is living with epilepsy. Simon Thibault had his first seizure 30 years ago. Today, at 43, he is not going to let epilepsy hold him back. In partnership with Épilepsie Montérégie, he has launched, and will participate in, the Défi-Simon ride for epilepsy.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for his comments. Like him, I would like to do politics differently. We need to put ideas and a positive, constructive attitude front and centre. I would like to know if he has any useful suggestions for this minority government context. He and I won seats in a minority Parliament, and our constituents would like to hear what suggestions we might have for the government to help us all work together constructively.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I am new to the House. I came here with a clear willingness to work and collaborate to advance the interests of the people of Shefford and Quebec. I wonder if my colleague has any advice to give me on how I might hang on to this democratic ideal on this sad day.

International Women's Day  Madam Speaker, on March 8, we will celebrate International Women's Day. Current events regularly remind us that the battle has not yet been won and that we need to continue to promote feminism for as long as it takes. March 8 is not only a day to show how proud we are to be women, but also a unique opportunity to raise awareness of the feminist struggle here and around the world.

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for her speech. I would like to remind her that medical assistance in dying is an intervention allowed only in exceptional cases, under very strict conditions. Access to this intervention is strictly regulated by law. Bill C-7 will not bring about an unreasonable increase in MAID cases.

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for her speech. However, end of life situations can be difficult. Despite the high-quality care and support offered to people at end of life, it is possible that, for a small number of people, palliative care might not sufficiently alleviate all of their suffering.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for his speech. He used the word “euthanasia”, but there is a difference between euthanasia and medical assistance in dying. This bill is not about euthanasia. Furthermore, I am sure that we can improve palliative care services and include that in a continuum of care for dying with dignity, and that includes medical assistance in dying.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for his speech, in which he talked about rights and freedoms. I just want to know if he is aware of the ruling regarding Nicole Gladu and Jean Truchon, both of whom have degenerative diseases, in which Justice Christine Baudouin wrote that, “The Court has no hesitation in concluding that the reasonably foreseeable natural death requirement infringes Mr.

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for his question. Personally, I have heard more about doctors showing a great deal of compassion for their patients and wanting them to be able to end their lives with dignity than the reverse. Personally, I have not heard of many, or really any, cases of undue pressure.

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for her question. First, we have to listen to them. As already mentioned, if there are cases and concerns, we have to be able to document them and submit them to the committee. I will be meeting next week with a group that has concerns about this bill.

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for his question. We are talking about the second consent, which we do not agree with. We believe that, in some cases, 10 days is already too long. It is a long time to suffer. In the case of advance consent, there is a way to avoid the 10-day period, which can be too long for some people.

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, death knows no borders. As already mentioned, we must ensure that there are no obstacles in rural areas. We will have to examine all the obstacles that prevent equal access to a dignified end for everyone, no matter their postal code.

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, it is with great humility that I rise in the House today to speak to Bill C-7, an act to amend the Criminal Code with regard to medical assistance in dying. Many MPs have very personal stories about the end of life of one of their loved ones. As the Bloc Québécois critic for seniors, it goes without saying that I have heard my share.
