The Prime Minister  Mr. Speaker, yesterday in the House of Commons, the Prime Minister attacked my integrity and the integrity of my family. Now that he has had some time to think, will the Prime Minister simply retract his remarks?

The Prime Minister  Mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister is avoiding my question. He made inappropriate remarks about myself and my family. I respectfully ask the Prime Minister to retract his comments.

Privilege  Mr. Speaker, I would also like to raise a question of privilege with respect to the comments that were made in the House today. I had the opportunity to listen to the Prime Minister attack my integrity, the integrity of my family, and I would personally ask that the Prime Minister apologize.

Committees of the House  Mr. Speaker, unfortunately the member is asking a question about a subject that is not the focal point of our debate today. It is a subject that could be attributed to our discussion. We are talking about a committee report and members from the Conservative Party were also present at committee.

Committees of the House  Mr. Speaker, the member for Mississauga—Streetsville has shown a keen interest on this subject. We are talking about a specific report and I am hoping that in the near future other reports will evolve and come to fruition and we will get an opportunity to discuss those matters as well.

Committees of the House  Mr. Speaker, that question is really a reflection of built up frustration that the member feels. I understand that frustration very well. The member has worked very hard with respect to an important subject matter. When it comes to shipbuilders, they might be exposed to some job losses or major job losses if we sign a NAFTA agreement without having a concrete strategy with respect to shipbuilders before we enter into that agreement.

Committees of the House  Thank you very much for that correction, Mr. Speaker. As you can see I am a bit passionate about this issue and therefore made a small error in judgment. I was alluding to the current Prime Minister while he was in opposition. He supported a motion in Parliament on February 8, 2005, calling on the federal government “to further elaborate with regard to the following elements: the use of safeguards provided for in trade agreements, the implementation of measures to encourage the use of Quebec--and Canadian--made textiles and the creation of a program to assist older workers”.

Committees of the House  Mr. Speaker, I consider myself fortunate to be given this opportunity to speak on this very important subject matter. I had the opportunity of hearing my colleague speak on this motion. I will read it aloud for the record and basically emphasize the areas I agree with and that are an important component of this motion.

Automobile Industry  Mr. Speaker, the government's rhetoric is as empty as the factories across Canada. It has no plan. We all know that the Conservative government is aggressively pursuing trade negotiations with South Korea. While Canada imports thousands of vehicles from Asia every year, we lack the ability to export our cars to protected Asian markets.

Automobile Industry  Mr. Speaker, as my colleague said, today Chrysler announced 2,000 job cuts in Canada, and this is just another example of a disturbing trend since the Conservatives took power. Under the Conservative government's watch, Statistics Canada reported a $1.2 billion trade deficit in the auto industry, the first such deficit in 18 years.

International Trade  Mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister and his government are selling out Canadians for trade deals that score cheap political points but undermine Canadian jobs. We know that the Prime Minister sold out the Canadian softwood lumber industry. He bullied our producers into signing agreements and quotas.

GTA's Most Wanted  Mr. Speaker, I would like to take this opportunity to inform the House about a grassroots initiative aimed at tackling crime in the greater Toronto area. Last week I attended a launch of a new local TV program on Rogers Television called GTA's Most Wanted. Rogers Television in partnership with the Peel Regional Police and other GTA police agencies are working together to profile wanted criminals and unsolved cases.

Government Programs  Mr. Speaker, the government does not care about young Canadians learning about the rest of the world. In fact, the only minority it cares about is its meanspirited, fragile minority government. The Liberal government booked $150 million for scholarships to send Canadian youth abroad to study and to bring the best and brightest from around the world to study at Canadian universities.

Petitions  Mr. Speaker, I would like to table four petitions in the House today that have been signed by numerous constituents in my riding of Mississauga—Brampton South. My constituents are concerned with the $1 billion budget cuts that were announced in September. Specifically, the four petitions call upon the government to restore the funding for the four following programs: $18 million for the adult literacy skills program; $6 million for the court challenges program; $5 million for the Status of Women; and $10 million for the youth international internship program.
