Copyright Modernization Act  Yes, Bill C-11 is the same as the former Bill C-32, with 11 amendments made following consultation. What people do not want is an iPod tax. That is clear. Yet that is what my colleague is recommending and he is starting to sound like a broken record. We need to move on. What we want to eliminate is piracy. When people try to cheat and pirate material in the digital era, it will be prohibited.

Copyright Modernization Act  This is essential for Canada's digital economy, for our standard on the world scene and to ensure that those who are investing and those who are creating have rights that are clear in the digital age. It has been 22 years since Canada's copyright regime has been seriously and substantively reformed in this way. We have taken action. We have consulted Canadians widely.

Copyright Modernization Act  Mr. Speaker, what is very clear is that the Prime Minister does not believe in freedom of debate inside the House of Commons. Never before have we seen a majority government take this type of action in order to limit debate.

Copyright Modernization Act  After two and a years, after having considered amendments, after having amended our own legislation with 11 specific amendments that came from those consultations, I think it is clear that this copyright bill has had two and a half years of substantive, non-partisan, effective debate and it is time to move forward.

Industry committee  You could be asking about workers' compensation, and somehow he would bring it back to environmental protection, until we got it. He had clear policy ideas that began to infuse the culture of the board. That's one way you can do it. When you speak as members of Parliament, give business direction. Here's another thing you can do.

Natural Resources committee  In the last four years that I've been on the job, we've been overhauling all of our regulatory documents and trying to make sure that our requirements are crystal clear. Second, for new technology, as we heard from Mr. Mowry, we accept a pre-licensing discussion to get to know each other, so that they will know our requirements and we become acquainted with their new technology.

Public Accounts committee  I want to go on to the next. It ties in with the same type of thing. The government is very clear about its intentions to balance the budget, and in the process to reimagine how government operates to the benefit of taxpayers. All areas of government are engaged in this process. The estimates prepared by your own office show some savings of approximately $625,000.

Public Accounts committee  As I said in my opening statement, we absolutely stand by the facts in our report, and the facts were cleared and agreed to by the departments involved.

Public Accounts committee  Thank you. I think it is clear. In addition, an article was published yesterday talking about the various options that were available to us in addition to the F-35. The government is constantly telling us that all options will be studied to ensure that the best solution is the one that is proposed for replacing the CF-18.

Industry committee  In fact, the studies seem to have found—at least the ones that were made available to our committee at the OECD—that patents and a clear knowledge of who owns what actually encourages just as much collaboration as anything else. I would urge the committee that while what the professor is suggesting is important and an interesting way of exploiting intellectual property rights and innovation, it's just one way.

Public Accounts committee  The problem we have, I think, in terms of those costs is that National Defence for the most part has simply said those costs are in their budget, they're going to be the same, and they haven't provided enough information for people to understand whether that really is an appropriate assumption. And that's what we feel they need to do: make it clear and defend that assumption that the costs are going to be the same.

Public Accounts committee  Just to be clear, there was certain information that was withheld by the cabinet that should have been in the different ministries and accessible to you?

Iran  This resolution focuses world attention on the human rights situation in Iran and urges the Iranian regime to respect its domestic and international human rights obligations. The resolution sends a clear message to the people of Iran, to those who are fighting to exercise their political rights, that Canada, and indeed the world, stands with them. Canada has also acted in concert with our international allies in imposing some of the toughest sanctions in the world on the Iranian regime.

Iran  The government's role is to make respect for human rights a priority in its negotiations, whether in foreign affairs or international trade policy. For example, some free trade agreements were negotiated even though witnesses made it clear that there are major human rights issues in their countries. Trade relationships should ensure and promote respect for human rights. Official development assistance was reduced to 0.25% of our GDP.

Iran  The Conservative government is renowned for promoting a prosperous economy in Canada and free trade around the world, but with that message I would like the member to give us some thoughts on how the government is also making sure the human rights message is loud and clear wherever it speaks.
