Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act  Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for his speech. He talked about guns at the border. Does he realize that the rules could be tightened to prevent gun trafficking on the black market?

The Economy  Mr. Speaker, the problem is that we are out of time. The Union des producteurs agricoles is sounding the alarm. A crisis is upon us. If the rail blockades are not lifted and if rail service does not resume within the next few hours, we will have a full-on propane shortage. Farmers use propane to heat their buildings in the middle of February.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, all day, MPs have been talking about the impact these blockades are having on their respective ridings. We agree on one thing: this crisis needs to end quickly. My priority is to help Bow Plumbing Group, a business in my riding. I worry that the use of force will lead to an escalation of violence, which will hurt Bow Plumbing Group.

The Economy  Mr. Speaker, people in our communities have run out of patience. Thousands of workers risk being laid off because of the rail blockade. In my own riding, for instance, Bow Plumbing Group is no longer getting the raw materials it needs to manufacture its products. Fifty people will be out of work by the end of the week if the government does not solve this crisis.

Relations with Indigenous Peoples  Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for his speech. He spoke about reconciliation. As part of reconciliation, we must take action to prevent crises from getting worse. In December 2019, The Guardian, a daily newspaper in London, reported that the RCMP had instructed its officers to use as much violence as they want to dismantle the Wet'suwet'en camps and that snipers would be deployed.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for his speech. In answer to his questions, I would say that this is a matter of fairness. We have already shown that the 50 weeks would give people who are suffering from a serious illness the same rights as workers who lose their jobs. We based our proposal on the findings of a study on this subject with the goal of being fair to everyone.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I think we can agree on that. As the critic for status of women, I can certainly understand the needs related to maternity. As I said, I have already spoken with a member who worked on the EI issue for pregnant women back in 2006-07. My colleague, Ms. Pauzé, even introduced a bill about that, so I think we can agree.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, again, this is about equity. There have been studies about this. We said we wanted the entitlement to be the same as for people who lose their job. We are open to discussing other improvements. As we have said, we are open to overhauling the employment insurance system.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for his question. As my colleague said, just because we have made progress, just because we are moving towards the goal and we can see it does not mean that we need to stop moving. We recognize what has been done. The Liberal government, when it was in opposition, even proposed this increase from 15 to 50 weeks.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I would first like to thank my colleague for sharing her time with me and giving me a chance to speak to this important matter. I also thank her for her very touching and poignant speech. She is a tough act to follow. How many people successfully recover from cancer in 15 weeks?

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act  Madam Speaker, of course the commission must be independent, but how does my colleague feel about the lack of resources that forces officers to work longer hours? They are inevitably more tired.

Monique Leyrac  Madam Speaker, I rise to pay tribute to Monique Leyrac, who died this past December at the age of 91. This amazing woman from a nearby riding chose to spend her last years in Sutton, in the Eastern Townships, because that was where she wanted to live. As her friend François Dompierre said so well, “She lived her life as she wanted.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for her speech. She raised issues related to cybersecurity. She also talked about the different types of complaints. As my party's status of women critic, any time sexual assault or harassment comes up, that is in my wheelhouse. In this day and age, with women being encouraged to file complaints and speak out about these situations, I would like to know if an independent agency can help encourage them to do just that.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act  Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for her speech. This morning, I took a training course on the importance of cybersecurity and concerns about our electronic devices. Cybersecurity is getting more and more attention, and several arrests have been made in relation to this. Could the member explain how this bill would improve cybersecurity?

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act  Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for her question. Indeed, we agree on a number of points. I would like to hear her thoughts on one important aspect. As we know, CBSA is understaffed. That is causing delays and creating tension and stress for officers and travellers alike. Does the government plan to look at that problem?
