Housing  In addition to that, we introduced a one-time top-up of $500 for 1.8 million vulnerable renters across the country. Not only did the Conservatives vote against that, but they also played procedural games last fall to delay the passage of that bill, which would have sent much-needed supports to renters.

Housing  Mr. Speaker, they are living up to their record, but when someone actually states their true record on this side of the House, they have a problem listening to it, but those are the facts. When it is first-time home buyers saving up to $40,000 in a tax-free savings account, they vote against it.

Housing  These are real efforts at making sure more and more Canadians can access the dream of home ownership, but the fact of the matter is that, while the Conservatives talk about gatekeepers, they are the biggest gatekeepers. They are not serious about this issue. They do not have a plan. It has been 300 days since he became leader—

Housing  When we presented plans to invest in rapid housing solutions for the most vulnerable, they opposed it. That is their record and they cannot get away from it.

Public Safety  Speaker, of course the hon. member is entitled to his opinions, but he is not entitled to the facts. The fact is that the Conservatives cut $390 million from CBSA, further weakening our borders. In addition, the Conservatives are comfortable with attacking Bill C-5, which comes from the first government to tackle the issue of the massive overrepresentation of indigenous and Black Canadian people in our prison system.

Housing  Speaker, on this side of the House, we understand the importance of keeping access to the Canadian dream of home ownership alive. The leader of the official opposition's voting record really shows that he does not actually care about making housing more affordable for working people across the country. All he has to offer is empty rhetoric and buzzwords. Now he wants to gatekeep rent supports for people who need it the most.

Health committee  The payment will be launched by the end of the year, pending passage of this legislation, so I really urge my Conservative colleagues to stop obstructing the passage of this legislation and to help us deliver this much-needed payment to Canadians as soon as possible.

Housing  That is why we introduced legislation to introduce a one-time top-up of $500, which would help 1.8 million renters and would be on top of the existing average $2,500 as part of the Canada housing benefit. I urge Conservative members to stop getting in the way and to help us pass this important legislation so that we can get this important rent relief to Canadians as soon as possible.

Taxation  We have introduced a one-time top-up to the Canada housing benefit of $500, which will go to help an additional 1.8 million Canadians. What are the Conservatives doing? They are playing procedural games to delay that legislation which will enable Canadians to receive that help now. What the hon. member can do is talk to his colleagues to make sure that we pass this important legislation to get rental help to Canadians today.

Housing  His member for Mission—Matsqui—Fraser Canyon says that we should step back and not invest in provisional housing programs. He is opposed, on the record, to the foreign ban of Canadian residential real estate and has opposed funding for affordable housing for indigenous peoples. It is all rhetoric and more rhetoric.

Human Resources committee  I would encourage the member to look at the track record of the rental construction financing initiative, a program that provides 100% financing to folks who are building rental stock. In budget 2022, in response to stakeholders and members of the opposition, we are doubling the affordability of the units from 20% of all the units built through RCFI to 40%.

Human Resources committee  Thank you, Mr. Chair. That's a great question, and I would point the member to our track record with other investments. If you look at the rapid housing initiative, in a very short amount of time we were able to conclude agreements with non-profit organizations as well as municipal governments to deliver housing and to deliver it within 12 months or less—and they all stepped up and did it.

Housing  Mr. Speaker, the hon. member for Mission—Matsqui—Fraser Canyon is on record as saying that we should walk away from our leadership role and investments in affordable housing and just leave it to the provinces. That is the leadership he is suggesting. He talks about housing supply.
