Budget Implementation Act, 2023, No. 1  Mr. Speaker, I keep hearing from those on the other side of the House that the government is investing, that they will do this and they will do that. I wonder if they recognize that there is no such thing as government money. It is the money of hard-working Canadians. It is important to live within our means or we will go further into debt.

Budget Implementation Act, 2023, No. 1  Mr. Speaker, I have a question that perhaps the member can answer. Why do the Liberals and the NDP insist on imposing a carbon tax when it clearly is not working? Emissions continue to rise, so why are they imposing this?

Budget Implementation Act, 2023, No. 1  Mr. Speaker, Conservatives are quite concerned about the Liberals closing down debate. They are stymying the scrutiny of government expenditures and management, which are out of control. I will give a small example of what is happening throughout Canada, which is big in my riding.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I can understand why the Liberals do not want to have an inquiry. For one thing, what benefits them politically is the status quo. Most of the ridings held by Chinese Canadians went Liberal in the last election, primarily because of threats and because all sorts of things were happening, such as money being funnelled.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, the member mentioned putting politics aside, but he did not mention that the Liberal Party has benefited to a great extent from the Communist Chinese government's involvement in our democracy. It is a very serious situation. I hear Liberal members laughing, but this is no laughing matter whatsoever.

Strengthening Environmental Protection for a Healthier Canada Act  Mr. Speaker, the member's last comment talked about the health and wellness of Canadians. I wonder if he would consider the impact of the carbon tax, which is adding thousands of dollars to Canadians' cost of living and fuel costs. It has an impact. I just want to make a quick comment also that in British Columbia we had something called “AirCare”, which tested vehicles for about two decades.

Opioids  Mr. Speaker, after eight years under this Prime Minister, everything feels broken. Life is more expensive, work does not pay and housing costs have doubled. The Prime Minister devised a way to control the people. Worst of all, crime, chaos, drugs and disorder rage in our streets.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, I will say that, growing up, hunting was essential for our family. I am from a military home. My dad is Métis, and I know that the indigenous people do not just want amendments. They want the bill removed. I will quote Chief Jessica Lazare from the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake.

Passports  Mr. Speaker, the Liberals are erasing Terry Fox's picture from Canadian passports. Terry Fox came from Coquitlam, B.C., and was Métis. After his leg was amputated for cancer, he began his cross-country Marathon of Hope to raise funds for research. Terry did not live to finish the race to the Pacific, but now millions participate in the annual Terry Fox Run to continue his race.

An Act for the Substantive Equality of Canada's Official Languages  Mr. Speaker, when my father was in the military, I lived in Chibougamau for a few years, as well as Valcartier. I went to an English school, and I appreciated the fact that I could receive my education in English. It is important, and it is an historic part of the charter, in the Constitution, for people whose first language is English.

An Act for the Substantive Equality of Canada's Official Languages  Mr. Speaker, perhaps the member and I will see each other at the next Festival du Bois. I have been there a number of times with students, and it is a great time. With respect to the modernization, when in government and now as the Conservative Party, the Conservatives are committed to bilingualism, to the rights of all Canadians and to strengthening bilingualism in Canada.

An Act for the Substantive Equality of Canada's Official Languages  Mr. Speaker, I thank the member who has the same first name as me. He stole it, I think. I am not certain. It is spelled with a “c”, is it not? In British Columbia, during the pandemic, the federal government was nowhere to be found. Francophone immigrants coming from all over had to turn to francophone and provincial organizations.

An Act for the Substantive Equality of Canada's Official Languages  Mr. Speaker, French and English are foundational to our nation. The bilingual nature of our country is in our DNA, and we do not want to lose it. Where I am from in British Columbia, as well as throughout this country, there has been a decline in French spoken at home. The French language and French Canadian culture are part of who we are, our tradition and our heritage.

Petitions  Mr. Speaker, regarding Bill C-311, Canadians are very concerned that there is no law protecting the unborn from injury or death, and that it is not considered an aggravating circumstance for the purposes of the Criminal Code of Canada. The petitioners feel that justice requires that an attacker who abuses a pregnant woman and her preborn child be sentenced accordingly.

An Act for the Substantive Equality of Canada's Official Languages  Mr. Speaker, I thank the member for his efforts in committee. As a member representing a riding in British Columbia, I would point out that interest in learning French is very strong. Hundreds of thousands of students attend or have attended immersion schools. The Liberal government likes to pat itself on the back for its efforts on behalf of francophone communities.
