Veterans Affairs committee  You didn't know where the enemy was. If any of you have read Paul Fussell's book about World War I, the lines were clear. Good guys were here and the bad guys were on the other side of the line. In Vietnam, they were everywhere. So different wars have different battle conditions. They also have different reception conditions.

Foreign Affairs committee  That is why I said that, psychologically speaking, it posed a problem for us: we really did not have a clear understanding of the reason why our country had been removed from the list. However, I must say that when I met with Canadian authorities, they explained the reasons why the list had been cut back—the idea being to secure more visibility for Canada's initiatives, and that the decision to cut back the list did not mean that Canada was no longer interested in countries that were not on it.

Procedure and House Affairs committee  The package you're proposing would incorporate that there would be clear instructions from the House to the Speaker to advise, formally advise, the Governor General of the will of the House.

Official Languages committee  However, that is something that is difficult to accomplish and it takes time. At the same time, it is essential that this reality be made clear to potential immigrants and that they be given an explanation of the specific circumstances in various places. In Saskatchewan, under the circumstances, it would be very difficult for a Francophone immigrant to preserve his language without extraordinary resources being put in place.

Agriculture committee  I think there seems to be a bit of a misconception that I'm hearing today on our government's position on the Canadian Wheat Board. I want to make it very clear that our position is to allow western Canadian farmers--wheat and barley farmers--marketing choice: nothing more, nothing less. That means that if a farmer chooses to sell their products to the Canadian Wheat Board, we support that.

Official Languages committee  Beyond the debate about whether we should just put all of this on the shoulders of Francophone communities outside Quebec, one assumes that we are all interested in promoting the French fact all across Canada, and balancing that with the rights of Anglophones that already exist in Quebec. That balance is important. My first question is for Mr. Jedwab and Ms. Lamarre. What clear recommendations can you make with respect to maintaining or even increasing the presence of Francophone immigrants outside Quebec and improving their quality of life in French?

Veterans Affairs committee  All members of the Gerontological Advisory Council think Keeping the Promise articulates a clear set of principles for the reform of health and social services for all of Canada's veterans. We are all delighted that the May 2008 report of this committee called Keeping the Promise is a bold new approach to health programs and services, and your first and second recommendations were that the DVA redesign its programs for both classes of veterans, as recommended by the department's Gerontological Advisory Council in Keeping the Promise.

Natural Resources committee  The reason a decision was made to stop taking applications is because it was anticipated that with the present applications the program would be fully subscribed. I think we need to be clear about that. The program has been extremely successful, to the point that we anticipate the budget is going to be fully subscribed. That's why we ceased taking the applications. I'll turn it over to Mr.

Transport committee  We don't think that behavioural analysis will play a significant role. There is potentially a place for identification of clear signs to note, and there is a trial program under way today in Canada. We believe more strongly, though, in the technological solutions. Given our passenger volumes, we think that's the better route, the more efficient route to follow.

Health committee  There you have your question mark: are we really built for a microwave life at such extreme levels? From the size, the question is very clear cut: no, we are not built for that, and we are not talking about a minor reduction. Just a few days ago I submitted a paper to a major American journal. In it, we point to the reductions in public exposure levels.

Health committee  I guess some of us are feeling that one of the recommendations would be to have proper longitudinal studies on population that at the beginning would focus on children. Obviously the regulations--Dr. Johansson and others have been pretty clear--need to be changed. There needs to be a focus on risk and on minimizing whatever risk exists by, as we heard on Tuesday, putting shields in place, and by telling people not to put their cellphone to their ear but to use the wires or whatever.

Balanced Refugee Reform Act  Madam Speaker, one of the things that my colleague is clearly looking for and that we are clearly looking for is equality and fairness. He has made that abundantly clear in his comments, and for that to happen, resources must be set aside for immigration. As members know, since 2006, the backlog has continued to increase, mostly because many of the Liberal pals were fired or not rehired, and not replaced.

Balanced Refugee Reform Act  We will seek to amend this legislation to make it better and clarify it for Canadians and for our partner countries. It is important that Canada sends a clear and concise message that we are a country that is open and we are a country that seeks to have a safe harbour for those who are persecuted abroad.
