Finance committee  Mr. McKay, I must not have been very clear. Evidently, I wasn't. It's simply a question of a calculation formula. There is a formula that's set out in the existing provision. The formula has different factors. One of those factors is this factor A that is being defined.

Canadian Heritage committee  Okay. Just to be clear, Mr. Del Mastro, the proposal is for the levy to extend to digital audio recording devices, that is to say, iPods and MP3 players, not—

Canadian Heritage committee  It's a big market and you'd like to get in on it. The problem is that the connection directly to music is not clear like it was with audio cassette tapes. Even you yourself would have to acknowledge that.

Finance committee  It's simply that one of the factors in the determination of cash payments is being correctly identified as the aggregate of revenue sources, rather than what is said in the incorrect section. I hope I made that clear.

Veterans Affairs committee  After 25 years, sometimes earlier, if the mortgage was paid off, the title was transferred to the veteran, who took full and clear possession of the home, and who then was completely free of debt. During the 25 years, the veteran could not sell, mortgage or borrow against the house, since he was a renter and not the owner.

Canadian Heritage committee  I don't understand the thinking on this at all, Mr. Angus. It's quite clear that we see this levy and other forms of collective licensing as the way forward. It's not only the way forward for artists. It's the way forward for record companies. It's the way forward for film and television companies.

Information & Ethics committee  The two main concerns are this power to get from Internet service providers, without a warrant, a customer name and address, and second, we find that the oversight governance structure provided for in these pieces of legislation is not clear and perhaps not as independent as it could be.

Canadian Heritage committee  But he doesn't want the private copying levy to legitimize illegal file sharing. That's what his point was. But just to be clear, if I can read from his testimony for the record, what he said was: We do support levies like this. We are also a member of the CPCC through our membership in the NRCC. That's the Neighbouring Rights Collective.

Foreign Affairs committee  In terms of Meles' promise to make some changes, again, as I said, there has to be accountability. It has to be measurable, and it has to be a really clear target, as far as I see it. Otherwise he promises, but reneges on his promises from year to year. This has happened many, many times, and there's no reason to believe that what he has promised now will be implemented.

Veterans Affairs committee  Unfortunately, it's now 2010 and a number of recommendations haven't yet been adopted. It's very clear regarding the lump sum, but many people have told us that you can't give young people some $200,000 and expect them to be fiscally responsible. As you said, they'll go out and buy a car, or a house, or something, and the money is gone.

Foreign Affairs committee  There's a sense of acceptance of diversity, including religious rights. At the same time, there's a clear understanding that society should not be dominated by a single religious extreme idea, where a religious political party would be the rule of the game. So that's what I was referring to.

Procedure and House Affairs committee  This is my last question. Just so I'm clear--and I know you've answered it before, so I apologize, but I might have missed something in interpretation--if one wanted to enact a constitutional amendment to deal with prorogation, would one necessarily have to go the seven-and-fifty route, or could it be done somewhat differently?

Bill C-3--Gender Equity in Indian Registration Act  And if he is in agreement with me, with respect to the fact that at committee the Conservative government of the day did hear that this continues to be discrimination against women? Is the member in agreement that the government members certainly heard that loud and clear?

Foreign Affairs committee  Whatever you want, just do it, as long as you give me access to a few things here and there.” Having said that, it's very clear that 40% to 60% of the current government's budget is subsidized by the western world; therefore, we can have a big influence--maybe not pull out completely, as suggested. It could be a strategic approach.

Committees of the House  We need to admit that the NAFO that we inherited in 2006 was not working and for 13 years it is not clear to me what efforts the previous government made to improve it. We now have deterrents in place in the NAFO regulatory area and foreign overfishing has dramatically declined. That really matters.
