Opioid Crisis in Canada  Mr. Chair, this is a crisis that affects every community. Waterloo, the riding I represent, is a small town turned city. It is amazing the number of people who come to visit the riding of Waterloo who are surprised to see horses and buggies. Every community across the country has been impacted by this crisis.

Opioid Crisis in Canada  Mr. Chair, I can wholeheartedly say that I entirely disagree with the member. I appreciate the effort she puts forward. Within the over $230 million the government has put forward, there are millions of dollars when it comes to education to ensure that people know about the harm associated with these drugs.

Opioid Crisis in Canada  Mr. Chair, I recall the member for Winnipeg Centre first asking for an emergency debate on this, and it was not granted. Then the member for Barrie—Springwater—Oro-Medonte asked for an emergency debate on this issue and it was not granted. That triggered me and others on the government benches to encourage the government to request a take-note debate so that we could share the stories of very real people in our communities who are affected by this crisis.

Opioid Crisis in Canada  Mr. Chair, that member, having served in a provincial parliament, should very well know that when it comes to the administration of health care services, they are within provincial jurisdiction. I can tell her that the federal government is here to provide billions of dollars in transfers, and we will always be a partner in that.

Opioid Crisis in Canada  Mr. Chair, from the years of 2006 to 2014, I was the manager of a Twin Cities Minor Tackle Football Association team. My good friend Jody Brown was the head coach and his son Jody Jr. played on our team, while his other son Tyshawn watched from the sidelines and played with his friends and the siblings of other players on the team.

Customs Act  Madam Speaker, unfortunately, agreement could not be reached under the provisions of Standing Order 78(1) or 78(2) with respect to the consideration of the amendments to Bill C-21, an act to amend the Customs Act. Under the provisions of Standing Order 78(3), I give notice that a minister of the Crown will propose at the next sitting a motion to allot a specific number of days or hours for the consideration and disposal of proceedings at the said stage.

Ethics  Madam Speaker, the member, as well as all other members, has been informed that the RCMP works independently of government. Government does not direct the RCMP or security agencies to take on investigations. We appreciate its independence and the work it does.

Ethics  Madam Speaker, we have already answered this question. As the member should know, the RCMP operates independently of government. We on this side of the House respect its work and its independence.

Ethics  Madam Speaker, the member is confusing matters and he is doing it on purpose. That is not the right way to do things in the House. The member is well aware that the RCMP operates independently. The minister has answered these questions too. It is easy to tell when Conservative members are asking genuine questions and when they are just making stuff up, because they do not say the same things outside.

Poverty Reduction Act  Madam Speaker, it is with regret that I advise that agreement could not be reached under the provisions of Standing Order 78(1) or 78(2) with respect to the second reading stage of Bill C-87, an act respecting the reduction of poverty. Under the provisions of Standing Order 78(3), I give notice that a minister of the Crown will propose at the next sitting a motion to allot a specific number of days or hours for the consideration and disposal of proceedings at the said stage.
