Subcommittee on International Human Rights committee  I took the opportunity to have discussions with many Iranian citizens of different ages. I engaged them in conversation about Ahmadinejad's views. It was clear that they were terrified that anything they might say might be construed as disagreement with Ahmadinejad. I asked several young people whether they thought the Holocaust was a myth, as Ahmadinejad had told them, or whether Israel was a cancer that must be wiped off the map.

Cree-Naskapi (of Quebec) Act  It assigns federal responsibilities in key policy fields to the Cree regional administration. It makes available to all governments—federal, provincial and Cree—a clear, equitable and logical method of achieving the essential objective of ensuring that the Cree people of northern Quebec will have genuine self-government. As a matter of fact, if it succeeds in these three important objectives, the agreement concerning this new relationship will have accomplished what we should expect, that is, the establishment of a solid base on which the Government of Canada and the Cree can build this new relationship.

Government Operations committee  SMEs need to be protected at all costs so that they can at least continue to operate. We want to be very clear from the outset that we are not opposed to rationalizing services or to combining 125 cable services into one. However, we mustn't lose sight of the fact that SMEs are the driving force behind the Canadian economy—this according to Industry Canada officials.

Environment committee  I think the law should be clear, and it simply is not clear. Let's just proceed, and we can vote down the amendment.

Environment committee  For example, if you're wanting to appoint a first nations or Métis person, how do you give equal credence to their backgrounds? So I'm open to some revision that makes that clear or to being convinced that it's fine the way it is. I'm not trying to make it complicated. I was just troubled by the wording.

Energy Efficiency Act  All it is doing is updating energy efficiency standards for companies and suppliers that had already begun updating their standards in other countries. It is important that we have a clear understanding of the government's role. The reaction by industry representatives is understandable: Industry greeted the proposed regulations with a shrug. A spokeswoman from Sony Canada said they would have little bearing on the company’s line of consumer electronics.

Indigenous and Northern Affairs committee  The crown clearly undertook legal obligations. I'm a former police officer also, and I'm very clear in terms of what the Supreme Court of Canada has decided in regard to the duty to consult and accommodate. In fact, the indigenous peoples, having gone to the court in at least 12 different decisions on their duty to consult and accommodate, found that there is no enforcement mechanism on the treaty.

Indigenous and Northern Affairs committee  There's been a lot of discussion on third-party interests. I want to make it clear that there are now 105 parcels of land, totalling 150,000 acres, that are sitting. There are no encumbrances on this land. There are no third-party interests. Why hasn't that land moved?

Indigenous and Northern Affairs committee  Today 900,000 people inhabit our 10-million-acre traditional territory. Our position as to Treaty One is simple, straightforward, and clear. Before the immigrants got to our lands, we owned all the land. Our rights were inherent and not granted by any other race or people. The crown did not give us any land in treaty. The crown had no land to give us.

Committees of the House  It is not a matter of replacing public servants or living in a state where politicians second-guess the public administration. However, in cases as clear and obvious as this, where we are called upon to act as individuals, the minister should act and make use of his powers. Reform Party Of Canada  This comment was made by none other than Stephen Harper who used to be a Reform MP. Perhaps he foresaw the desperate lengths that his former leader would go to to try to become Prime Minister. Canadians rejected this scheme when Brian Mulroney and the Progressive Conservatives tried it and they will reject the Reform-Bloc coalition just as quickly.

Agriculture committee  Sincerely, David Anderson. Chair, let me just explain some of this. Marleau and Montpetit is very clear that subcommittees are creatures of the parent committee. Let me quote: Sub-committees are to committees what committees are to the House; the parent body is relieved of a portion of its workload by delegating some part of its mandate or a particular task to a smaller group.

Budget Implementation Act, 2009  Madam Speaker, I will begin by saying that it is very clear, as far as third reading of Bill C-10 is concerned, that the Bloc Québécois will be opposed, for a number of reasons. We have taken part in the debates at second reading, and proposed amendments, all of which were rejected.
