National Defence committee  Premier Williams apologized, on behalf of the people of Newfoundland and Labrador, for the forceable move south of two Inuit communities to a place where they did not wish to be. I can tell everybody here that it was an extremely moving apology, and it was very, very clear from the reaction of the people involved how important it was to them and what a striking reaction--an emotional, physical reaction--resulted from that. So I understand that, and I support your request for an apology.

Citizenship and Immigration committee  Likely it'll be mom, but if the mom is overseas, then the child will be separated from the mom for five years. Let me see if I have this clear on the recommendations from both of you. There's a need for faster application. The turndown rate should be lower, especially in some visa offices. If a case is rejected, the immigration appeal division process now takes a year and a half, so we need more board members in the appeal division in order to process these cases faster.

Official Languages committee  On the other hand, if there are any questions as to whether there are officers who this will be a challenge for perhaps, but I'll wait until December 31 when I get the results. Then, it's very clear for the Chief of the Canadian Forces. People will be taking their releases. I come back and say politics, in a way, is a process, but it's not a process; it's about leadership. I keep coming back to this.

Official Languages committee  I addition, what we're doing, that is to say writing and introducing policies, is really the foundation. If we don't have good clear policies, we can make all the efforts we want... Because in the armed forces, things only work if it's written down; in that case, it will get done.

Information & Ethics committee  A letter like this goes out after someone has been stalled out for, let's say, half a year: We're aware that a certain time has passed since your request was originally received; we sincerely apologize for the delay; and in an attempt to clear the heavy backlog, please complete the following--namely, do you still require that information, yes or no? Isn't that somewhat Orwellian?

Finance committee  Under the Financial Administration Act deputy ministers do have responsibilities for moneys flowing out the door, responsibilities for making sure that Treasury Board polices are being followed and that the financial statements are strong, clear, and transparent. We're aware that electronic versions do exist. We speak to the municipalities on this issue, so we know they're inputting it into the database. Quite honestly, we're focusing on infrastructure because, again, we are a small team and we think it's a very important part of the stimulus program that will contribute to growth down the road.

National Defence committee  I guess it's because they're afraid it will lead to other things. But we have never been given a clear explanation of why that apology is not forthcoming.

Foreign Affairs committee  I think the second question was in regard to a clear framework that's put forward by the department. I think Madam Fortier spoke on that earlier.

Information & Ethics committee  Well, I think it's clear for everyone here that you're obstructing my point of order, Mr. Chairman.

Finance committee  The high levels of uncertainty and risk also underscore the importance of a fiscal plan with clear targets for budget balances and debt. In the same vein, quarterly reports that highlight activities, outlays or expenses related to budget implementation, in addition to commitments, will help us understand the nature and impact of budget stimulus measures on economic recovery.

Official Languages committee  Official languages visibility was increased by focusing on specific areas of concern, like linguistic rights, and offering clear and accessible information to all civilian employees, military personnel and their dependents. Articles, pamphlets, presentations, kiosks, posters and brochures are among the major activities that took place in the last year or are currently taking place.

House debate  There is a great deal of chaos and misinformation in the meantime. I cannot say that we have had clear information about how things will actually be delivered, either in the preventative vaccination or in the post-illness treatment.

House debate  This afternoon at 4:30 Whitehorse time another school-age girl passed away. This is one of the reasons we are having this emergency debate. It is clear that the government has failed Canadians in the rollout. It has failed Canadians in public education. It has failed in coming up with a plan to resolve the untenable situation that we have right now.

House debate  It paid dearly for vaccine from Australia and asked GSK—in a politically motivated and amateurish decision—to alter its production line to produce non-adjuvanted vaccine when it suddenly realized that it had nothing to give the highest-risk group, pregnant women. It is clear that everything is not okay. Someone is hiding the truth. Whether that someone is the government, well, if one looks at how it has handled this matter from the beginning, some serious questions have to be asked.

House debate  Provinces and territories, which have the lead responsibility for administering the vaccine, rely on this extraordinary partnership to make clear and consistent information available to health professionals and ordinary citizens. We are moving forward together. Canada's vaccine supplier, GSK, has informed us that the vaccine supply being shipped across Canada will be lower next week.
