Finance committee  What can we do to avoid the ad valorem or the percentage of the purchase? We're hearing loud and clear from many of the consumer groups and merchants that it's what they're concerned about—going away from the flat fee to the percentage fee. How can we prevent that? What are the steps we can take to ensure we're keeping things fair?

Industry committee  Merchants need to clearly understand the payment options available to them and their associated costs, and they need to choose the options they wish to accept. So merchant contracts, which are an issue in the industry, need to be in clear language, ensuring that the payment options are separately priced. They can't be blended or bundled, because that takes away our strategy and the Interac low-cost, sustainable option.

International Trade committee  My party has raised concerns about the impacts of the these so-called free trade agreements. I think there are very clear issues here about how the U.S.-Peruvian agreement can be properly constituted to ensure that indigenous people, aboriginal people, are included in the kind of economic development all of us around the table want to see.

Industry committee  I know it is very strong with respect to the merchants. We have a history of partnership and clear and transparent dealings with the merchants. Our strategy is based on merchants being able to choose and or influence the choice of consumers.

Industry committee  Thank you, Mr. Chair. Good morning, Mr. O'Connell. Thank you for being here. You gave an excellent and clear presentation that I greatly appreciated. Under the current structure, fixed fees are charged to the “processors“, the ones providing the technology to merchants, who in turn transfer the costs to the retailers, with additional fees.

Maa-nulth First Nations Final Agreement Act  For 67 years, he was hereditary chief of the Toquaht Nation, a sacred role he passed on to his daughter Anne earlier this year. I understand that when Chief Mack became chief, at the age of 18, his father had one clear, concise instruction for him to follow. His father said “go and negotiate a treaty”. The Maa-nulth First Nations final agreement is a fitting testament to his unwaivering dedication to that task.

Environment committee  One of the indicators that we were trying to use at one point in time had to do with some lymphocystic-type stuff in fat-head minnow, but it didn't sort of pan out as being reliable. Frankly, I don't want to waste your time. I don't have a clear answer for you.

Environment committee  The first question in the line of questioning I want to follow, though, is dealing with the scientific independence. You have been quite clear, Dr. Dixon, that you are obviously balancing the various sources of funding that come to you and you're maintaining scientific independence. I'm going to ask you directly if the oil sands companies or anybody like that ever tried to influence the direction of your research as part of their funding arrangements.

Environment committee  Dr. Schindler was very clear in his testimony before the committee when we were in Edmonton that he did not want to take any funding from the oil sands companies, which implies that anybody who's doing science at the behest of the oil companies doesn't have that independence.

Finance committee  They don't want to see the executives brought here. Number one, it's inappropriate. The pensions at Nortel—and we need to be very clear on this—are provincial jurisdiction. They are subject to Ontario's Pension Benefits Act, which has nothing to do with this committee and nothing to do with the federal government. The only areas of federal jurisdiction are the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act and the CCAA, and they in fact, Mr.

Finance committee  I withdraw my notice of motion. I'm supporting Mr. Pacetti's motion, while repeating that Mr. Pacetti was clear, in fact extremely so. The facts were reported in the newspapers. I'm a lawyer, and I can tell you that Mr. Menzies' argument doesn't hold water. It is not true that having one or another of Nortel Networks' executives or directors before the committee would be a problem.

Citizenship and Immigration committee  In declaring that sponsorship intent, and in submitting a sponsorship application, even if the child is stateless and needs a travel document to be able to travel to Canada, we will issue a single-journey travel document to facilitate the travel to Canada, because the ultimate intent is clear. The intent is to sponsor the child as a permanent resident and put her on that track to permanent residency and citizenship. As for arrival in Canada, because for a minor who's under the age of 18 the normal three-year window period of waiting to apply for citizenship does not apply, you can apply immediately upon arrival in Canada for citizenship for the child.
