Tackling Auto Theft and Property Crime Act  Mr. Speaker, I agree with my colleague that the bill should have been passed a while ago but because of the games that the Conservative government keeps playing, it has not been passed. There are basically three different types of auto theft: first, joyriding; second, theft perpetrated by an individual who steals a vehicle for the purpose of committing another crime; and third, and the one that has significantly increased, is theft for profit by organized crime.

Taxation  Mr. Speaker, according to the Canada Revenue Agency's latest report card, every dollar invested in its employees yields a return of $4 to the government. Unfortunately, the same report also talks about the job cuts planned for the unit that fights tax evasion. The government wants to cut 200 positions over the next three years, even though the scourge of tax evasion is undermining our economy.

Taxation  Mr. Speaker, does the government understand that tax havens are a problem, that tax evasion is a serious crime? We know that billions are sent offshore to the sunny Caribbean to hide underneath beach blankets and avoid Canadian taxes. The current government's solution is to reduce the number of investigators at CRA who are looking for tax cheats.

Canada-Jordan Free Trade Act  Mr. Speaker, my colleague's comments on the bill were insightful. She talked about migrant workers and the fact that the government would have to recognize a labour dispute as being a strike. She raised some serious concerns. With regard to human rights, we understand that it is not worse than the Colombia issues we brought forth.

Hornepayne's Town Centre Complex  Mr. Speaker, when the Liberal government sold CN, it refused to protect its investment in and responsibility to Hornepayne's town centre complex. As the centre prepares to close its doors for good on September 30, the ominous predictions of New Democrats have proven accurate. Tenants of the complex, such as the high school, post office and public library, have been struggling to relocate, and the people of Hornepayne will soon be without a gym, swimming pool and their only hotel.

HST  Mr. Speaker, today is the first day of fall, which means that colder temperatures are around the corner. That is bad news for people in northern Ontario. This year, their heating bills will go up by 8% because the Conservative government's HST will now apply to heating. This sends a chill up our spines.

Pensions  Madam Speaker, New Democrats are calling for the Canada pension plan to be doubled, to raise the guaranteed income supplement for low income seniors and to protect workplace pensions. With 1.5 million Canadians still out of work and six in ten living paycheque to paycheque, we are seeing that there is still a lot of economic recovery to be made.

National Hunting, Trapping and Fishing Heritage Day Act  Madam Speaker, it is with great pleasure that I address this bill today. It is a matter that speaks to the heart and soul of my constituency. Algoma—Manitoulin—Kapuskasing is a place where many people participate in or even make their living from hunting, trapping, and fishing.

Multiple Sclerosis  Mr. Chair, the member is bang on. We do have to get a move on and we do have to ensure people have access to the procedure. Again, the procedure is angioplasty. I will correct my colleague from Bruce—Grey—Owen Sound, CCSVI is the illness, is the disease and I am well aware of that.

Multiple Sclerosis  Mr. Chair, I greatly appreciate the comments that the hon. member made. Obviously, his sister is open-minded and if she could access this, she certainly would. The issue here is with regard to the studies. There are only going to be about 40 to 50 studies done a year and it takes a very long time.

Multiple Sclerosis  Mr. Chair, I greatly appreciate the member sharing that personal story. As I mentioned before, I have some friends, Dave and Carla, in Elliot Lake. I know what they been living through for quite some time. Dave wants nothing more than to at least have some relief. If this procedure could get him out of his wheelchair or at least get him to move his hands so that he could hold his six-year-old son, because he has never been able to hold his son, that would be very powerful for them.

Multiple Sclerosis  Mr. Chair, I want to refer to some testimony that we heard in committee. The question was asked to Dr. Sandy MacDonald, who had treated six patients: Have there been any complications? And what have you learned from the treatment that you have engaged in so far? The response was: There have been no complications to treatment.

Multiple Sclerosis  Mr. Chair, one of the witnesses we heard from, Ms. Rebecca Cooney, talked about the problems with studies and the ability of patients to access those studies. For example, in her condition, she also suffers from Crohn's disease. Does my colleague understand or does she know and does she agree with me that if patients have other conditions that will automatically oust them out of any study and the ability to even access that study?

Multiple Sclerosis  Madam Chair, based on the information that we heard from the witnesses and the doctors who came to committee, I am just wondering if the member believes that if those patients have access to the treatment now that this would take away from the study.

Multiple Sclerosis  Madam Chair, I want to refer to a question that was asked by my colleague regarding Dr. Sandy McDonald. Why does the member think there is more caution coming from the MS Society on this issue? Dr. McDonald said: I'm a vascular surgeon. I'm trained to treat venous and arterial anomalies.
