Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship  Mr. Speaker, we are working closely with our Quebec counterparts on this and many other files. Over 34,000 foreign workers have already arrived in Canada for the 2021 farming season, including over 14,000 in Quebec. These results speak for themselves, and we will continue to provide the labour that Quebec needs to support the economic recovery.

Citizenship Act  Madam Speaker, my colleague is 100% right. The calls to action are only a part of the work that needs to be done, albeit a very important part of the work that needs to be done, to reconcile with indigenous Canadians. We are very proud of the work that is being done. We fully understand the importance of the calls to action and we will continue to accelerate our work with our partners to advance implementation.

Citizenship Act  Madam Speaker, I thank my hon. colleague for his question and for sharing that family's story. Unfortunately, I am unable to comment on that specific situation. However, I would like to take this opportunity to thank my hon. colleague, as well as those of the other parties, for allowing this debate here this evening so we can move forward with Bill C-8.

Citizenship Act  Madam Speaker, I want to thank my hon. colleague not only for her question but for her wonderful work on the immigration committee. I have had the pleasure of working with her for quite some time now on that committee and she is doing some really great work there. With respect to the hon. member's question, many more consultations need to take place over the summer.

Citizenship Act  Madam Speaker, I would like to begin by acknowledging that I am addressing the House today from my riding of Vaudreuil—Soulanges, situated on land that has a shared history among the Huron-Wendat nation, the Mohawk, the Anishinabe Nation and the Six Nations. I feel it is also important and essential to acknowledge the long-standing heritage of the Métis in my community of Vaudreuil—Soulanges.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship  Madam Speaker, openness and transparency in government are essential, and our government takes the protection of Canadians' privacy very seriously. We have made progress in support of access to information and have backed that with investments that are strengthening our system.

End of the School Year  Madam Speaker, I rise today to recognize the students in Vaudreuil—Soulanges. This year many of them started a new chapter in their online schooling. They did their best to stay motivated. Many of our students are finishing up their high school, college or university studies alone in front of a computer screen.

Budget Implementation Act, 2021, No. 1  Madam Speaker, there are a couple of points I would like to clarify. Firstly, we are still dedicated to phasing out fossil fuel subsidies by 2025 and we have already been able to remove eight fossil fuel subsidies. This budget delivers in so many ways with regard to climate change.

Budget Implementation Act, 2021, No. 1  Madam Speaker, in fact, all of the restaurant owners I have spoken to have been incredibly grateful for the wage subsidy and the rent subsidy that were put forward. They told me that without those support measures, they would no longer be around. I am very glad to see in budget 2021 these programs are going to continue throughout the summer.

Budget Implementation Act, 2021, No. 1  Madam Speaker, I thank my hon. colleague for his question. I completely agree that we need a multi-faceted plan to fight climate change. That is what we are implementing. Our historic $3.16-billion plan includes planting two billion trees, which will help us meet and also exceed our Paris Agreement targets, while ensuring that we leave a healthier Canada for our children and a positive legacy for future generations.

Budget Implementation Act, 2021, No. 1  Madam Speaker, I am pleased to have this opportunity to contribute to the debate on Bill C-30, budget implementation act, 2021, no. 1. The budget reflects the unprecedented times we are living in. My constituents in Vaudreuil—Soulanges, all Canadians and billions of people around the world have had their lives turned upside down for more than a year by COVID-19.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship  Mr. Speaker, immigration is essential to the economic recovery in Quebec and all of Canada. This year, we welcomed more than 7,000 new skilled permanent residents in Quebec, which represents a 54% increase compared to the same period last year. We are on track to meet the immigration targets set by Quebec, including getting caught up on the 2020 files.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship  Mr. Speaker, my hon. colleague knows very well that last year, we were in a global pandemic, but since then, we have added additional resources where they were needed the most and moved from paper-based applications to digital. This has allowed us to admit over 7,000 skilled workers, an improvement of more than 56% compared to the same period last year.

Immigrations, Refugees and Citizenship  Madam Speaker, I will repeat for the benefit of my hon. colleague that VACs do not play a role in the decision-making process and are expressly forbidden to provide any visa-related advice to applicants. In fact, as I stated, all immigration information gathered at VACs is transmitted directly to Canada and is stored in Canada.
