Orville John Zerbin  Mr. Speaker, Pastor Orville John Zerbin, lovingly known as Pastor OJ, was one of the great pillars of our Edmonton Mill Woods community. Sadly, he lost his battle with cancer on Good Friday, at the age of 66. He is survived by his loving wife Barb, six children, eight grandchildren, many relatives and friends, and a large congregation he helped to build.

The Economy  Mr. Speaker, more and more Canadians continue to struggle to make ends meet. Two-thirds of Canadians say that inflation and the affordability crisis are their top economic concerns. Six years of Liberal governance and inflationary policies got us to where we are today: soaring inflation, a devastating housing crisis and hard-working Canadians struggling to pay for food, rent and their mortgages.

Vaccine Mandates  Mr. Speaker, for two years Canadians have been living with COVID‑19 restrictions: restrictions on travel, restrictions on visiting loved ones and restrictions on worshipping. Children have been restricted from playing with other children or taking part in sports and other activities.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I would much rather have Canada work with NGOs that understand how to help people on the ground. One other point the member made that is very important is that this really is about people on the ground. I know the Liberals throw around this number, and they made a big announcement that 40,000 Afghans would be brought to Canada, but they have barely scratched the surface on that.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, the legacy of Manmeet Singh Bhullar will truly be how much he wanted to bring so many of the Afghan religious minorities to Canada. He literally stayed up day and night, talking to them on Zoom during the night to learn more about their situation. He worked to get some of them, very few, to India and then worked on a process to get them here.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, Canadians elected us to come here to hold the government to account. That is exactly what we are doing here today. We are presenting ideas. We have presented this idea to have a special committee to look at this very important issue, an issue that he himself is saying is very important.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I will be splitting my time with the member for Barrie—Innisfil. The Taliban regime is known for its brutality, human rights violations and ruthless killings. For months now, we have been hearing from our men and women in uniform about the imminent dangers to those who fought alongside them in Afghanistan and that their lives are at risk.

Pramukh Swami Maharaj  Mr. Speaker, it is a great honour to recognize the 100th birth anniversary of His Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj. His holiness was a Hindu swami of Swaminarayan denomination and he gifted the people of Canada the magnificent BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Toronto, which is the first traditionally hand-carved Hindu place of worship in all of Canada.

The Economy  Madam Speaker, as they say, small businesses are the backbone of an economy, and we need to help them thrive to help get our economy back on track. However, because of Liberal inflation, labour shortages and rising shipping costs, many businesses are struggling just to stay open.

The Economy  Madam Speaker, just this morning analysis from National Bank Financial revealed that, for the first time in decades, private sector investment in Canada has actually shrunk. Canadian factories are currently operating with the lowest capital stock in 35 years. The Liberals have made it harder to open and operate a business in Canada.

The Economy  Madam Speaker, Conservatives have repeatedly warned the government its reckless spending would fuel inflation. It said it would not, yet here we are. The cost of everything has gone up. When will the government take real action to help Canadian families who are struggling to afford the most basic things, like groceries?

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  Mr. Speaker, if the member would like to see proof of the Liberal government's war on Alberta's energy sector, all he needs to do is come to my riding. People had good well-paying jobs in the energy sector and were able to provide for their families and put their children through university.

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  Mr. Speaker, the oil that is coming from other parts of the world into Canada is in the same tankers that people protest against and try to stop. The fact is that the government has hurt jobs and economic viability in Alberta. We need to champion that industry and all the Alberta energy sector.

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  Mr. Speaker, the problem is that the Green Party and the Liberals do not understand that we can do both. We can reduce our emissions, we can provide for our future and we can use those resources to help to diversify our economy and produce new greener technologies. We can use the energy sector to be the guiding path into the future.

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  Mr. Speaker, we support Canada's energy sector because we support science. Canada's energy sector has reduced its environmental footprint. It is using world-leading technology. It is ethically produced energy right here in Canada, supporting Canadian jobs and families, such as the families in my riding of Edmonton Mill Woods.
