Mining Industry  Mr. Speaker, the Liberal-NDP-Bloc coalition is attacking a key pillar of the Canadian economy. Bill C-300 would, among other things, subject Canadian mining companies to grievances lodged by foreign interests. If the coalition has its way, many Canadian jobs will be lost in an industry that contributed $40 billion to Canada's economy in 2008 and which employs 351,000 workers.

Justice  Mr. Speaker, today, the Minister of Justice introduced a bill to end volume discounts for multiple murderers. Under the current system, criminals convicted of multiple murders serve their sentences concurrently, meaning that they are eligible to apply for parole in some cases after just 10 years and in other cases after just 25 years in prison.

Protecting Children from Online Sexual Exploitation Act  Mr. Speaker, I want to welcome the member back to the justice committee. She does good work there. I think we have a collaborative committee that looks forward to dealing with the bill. I want to refer to a comment made earlier today by the member for Elmwood—Transcona. He suggested that the fines to be imposed against corporations that violated the intent of the bill should be increased.

Protecting Children from Online Sexual Exploitation Act  Mr. Speaker, referring back to a question from the member for Elmwood—Transcona, he may not have been listening carefully to the speech of my colleague from Langley. He actually said that over 3,000 websites dealing in child pornography had been shut down in Canada. Therefore, we are blocking that.

Protecting Children from Online Sexual Exploitation Act  Mr. Speaker, I want to commend my friend from Langley. We used to serve on city council together in Abbotsford. I want to commend him for supporting this very worthwhile legislation that would protect our children going forward. Despite the comments from the NDP across the way, my colleague knows the Internet really has no boundaries.

Justice  Mr. Speaker, the Liberal leader offers very few solutions when it comes to getting tough on crime. He panders to the drug users rather than joining our government in getting tough on traffickers and producers of drugs. On Monday, he said he would reintroduce a bill to decriminalize marijuana.

Canada-Panama Free Trade Act  Madam Speaker, the member and his party are going to oppose this free trade agreement, as they have opposed so many other free trade agreements before, but he mentioned that one of the reasons he is opposing it is because he believes there is a failure to protect labour and the efforts of workers to get proper living conditions and wages.

Canada-Panama Free Trade Act  Mr. Speaker, the hyperbole coming from the member is breathtaking. Canadians have seen why they elected a Conservative government to protect the economy and prosperity of this country and why the NDP has no hope of ever leading Canada. He suggested that our government does not track the figures of our free trade experiences with other countries around the world.

Canada-Panama Free Trade Act  Mr. Speaker, I am very disappointed with the member and the Bloc for not supporting this free trade agreement. Canada is one of the great free trading nations of the world. We heard earlier today that in order to grow our economy to ensure our future prosperity it was critical that we continue to find new trading relationships.

Canada-Panama Free Trade Act  Mr. Speaker, I thank my friend for his support of the Canada-Panama free trade agreement. He is correct in suggesting that Canada, as one of the great free trading nations, needs to develop new trading relationships. Where his argument falls down is the suggestion that previous Liberal governments somehow were able to achieve much more in the area of international trade.

Combating Terrorism Act  Mr. Speaker, I believe the hon. member is referring to preventive detention. The bill contains provisions that allow our authorities to undertake investigations, including detention, to provide them with the opportunity to intervene and question people who may have knowledge about terrorist acts that may be committed.
