Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement Implementation Act  Madam Speaker, I disagree with the member when he predicts that the price of medicine will automatically go up and that it has to go up. Through free trade, we will find opportunities to obtain the goods we want, including medicine and pharmaceuticals. It is an opportunity. We should not only see the barriers.

Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement Implementation Act  Madam Speaker, I want to be respectful in my response, because I will disagree in principle. I think the government has made the right move to push ahead with this agreement, because eventually there will be a Brexit. It is not perhaps; it is definitely when. Theresa May, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, has been very clear that there will be an exit.

Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement Implementation Act  Madam Speaker, I think the member is right in some part. CETA offers an opportunity for our manufacturers and Canadians to do business more easily in Europe. It is one piece of the puzzle in the long term. I say that because the previous Conservative government had started exploratory discussions on launching free trade negotiations with other countries.

Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement Implementation Act  Madam Speaker, I am very pleased to join the debate on Bill C-30, an act implementing our latest free trade agreement with the European Union. I was very glad to hear the minister speak on the subject. I congratulate him as well on his appointment to the ministry. For all those who did not make it, their time will come I am sure, when the minister faces tough questions and will be unable to answer them in the House.

Multiculturalism  Mr. Speaker, the Paul Yuzyk Award for Multiculturalism was established by the Conservative government in 2015 to recognize and celebrate the many cultural and ethnic communities that call Canada home. Official government documents show that the Liberals never bothered to even give out the award, blaming it on a lack of nominations.

Questions Passed as Orders for Returns  Mr. Speaker, I am rising on a point of order regarding a written question, in accordance with Standing Order 39 and Order Paper Question No. 510 that was on the Order Paper regarding the visit of the Chinese Premier and his stay at the Westin Hotel in Ottawa and, more specifically, the artificial wall outside the Premier's hotel that was constructed during his visit.

Statistics Act  Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for allowing me to put this on the record. I share his concern. I am interested to know how the information that Statistics Canada will hold within its agency will be transferred, whether to Shared Services or others, or whether there will be a private server.

Statistics Act  Mr. Speaker, the member asked an interesting question. In my previous life, I was a registrar in the human resources profession, where I dealt with large volumes of personal information. As the registrar, I was also responsible for making sure our 6,000 members in the province of Alberta were doing their due diligence when dealing with their employees' private information.

Statistics Act  Mr. Speaker, I want to clarify that the long-form census was made voluntary. It did not just vanish. Speaking as a member who used to be in the private sector, I will say that my board of directors saw it as an opportunity. We created labour market information with our members.

Statistics Act  Mr. Speaker, obviously, over the winter break his deciphering has gotten a little worse. By no means have I indicated whether I am going to vote for or against the government. I am asking open questions. Once I have the answers, I will be able to make a decision. However, on fines, I do not think it is right to levy a punitive fine on a family where perhaps both breadwinners are out of work.

Statistics Act  Mr. Speaker, it is a pleasure to rise in the House late in the day, after hearing so many contributions to the debate. I will say that, unlike the member for Sherwood Parkā€”Fort Saskatchewan, I am not happy to be back. I would much rather spend more time with my family, probably like some members here.

Statistics Act  Mr. Speaker, I have been sitting here all day listening to different members present their views on this piece of legislation. I want to bring it back to the National Statistics Council that is basically being replaced, essentially dismissed. This is what I heard from the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development this morning.

Statistics Act  Mr. Speaker, my question is on the council we would be getting rid of. The National Statistics Council would be changed to the Canadian statistics advisory council. I have never heard a complaint about the good work the National Statistics Council has been doing. I have actually had a hard time finding out who the members serving on the council are.
