Port of Montreal Operations Act, 2021  Mr. Speaker, the Liberals talk about protecting the middle class, and these are middle-class workers. With the number of times the Liberals and Conservatives have forced workers back to work through back-to-work legislation, eroding the right to strike, does the member agree that collective bargaining and the constitutional right to strike is being dangerously eroded, and maybe permanently eroded, through this type of action?

Proceedings on a Bill entitled An Act to Provide for the Resumption and Continuation of Operations at the Port of Montreal  Madam Speaker, it is ironic that today, April 28, is a day when we mourn workers who lost their lives or were injured on the job. The right to strike is fundamental. It is the tool that unionized workers have when negotiations fail, and these workers have been negotiating in good faith.

Canadian Net-Zero Emissions Accountability Act  Madam Speaker, we are indeed in a climate crisis. This Parliament voted to affirm that. Does the hon. member think we should have a target for 2025? As well, should the government be responsible for meeting that target in 2025, whoever is running the government?

Canadian Net-Zero Emissions Accountability Act  Madam Speaker, I still do not understand why we do not have a 2025 target. I do not understand how we can meet our targets when this government continues to pour money into the fossil fuel industry, including $18 billion to the Trans Mountain expansion project and continuing to subsidize oil and gas.

Canadian Net-Zero Emissions Accountability Act  Madam Speaker, this is, in fact, the first time I have had an opportunity to speak to this bill, so I find it completely disingenuous on the part of the government to say that we have had enough debate on this. This bill is completely inadequate. We have not met any of our climate targets in the past and this bill would not hold this government to account.

Canadian Net-Zero Emissions Accountability Act  Madam Speaker, I will start again. The debate on this bill has been completely inadequate. This is, in fact, the first time that I have had an opportunity to speak to this bill. I have tried in the past to get up and speak, ask questions and raise comments. This bill is completely inadequate.

The Budget  Mr. Speaker, I would like to thank the hon. member for focusing on government priorities and spending. What does he think about wasting $18 billion on the Trans Mountain expansion project and another $18 billion in subsidies to the fossil fuel industry when we are in a climate crisis and we know that we need to transition?

The Budget  Madam Speaker, the member highlighted a lot of issues with affordable housing. This is not something that happened overnight. We have seen free trade agreements and we have seen an openness to foreign direct investment in Canada for pretty much anything. If one wants to buy it, here it is, and now it has happened with our housing market.

The Budget  Madam Speaker, we have seen pandemic profiteers using government funding to pay executive bonuses and shareholder dividends. We have also seen additional wealth accumulation of the billionaire class during the pandemic, amounting to $87 billion. The Green Party believes that we need a wealth tax and stronger rules to ensure that people are not enriching themselves with COVID relief funding.

Petitions  Mr. Speaker, today I rise to table a petition signed by people concerned about public funding being spent on the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion during the climate emergency. The cost of this pipeline is now estimated to hit $18 billion, and expert reports state this investment will not be recouped unless the government ignores its own climate targets and allows greenhouse gas emissions to continue to increase from the oil and gas sector.

Petitions  Madam Speaker, it is a privilege to present two petitions initiated and signed by constituents in Nanaimo—Ladysmith. The first petition outlines a long series of human rights abuses sanctioned and perpetrated by officials of the Chinese Communist Party. The petitioners urge the Government of Canada to deploy all legal sanctions against these perpetrators under the Magnitsky act, including freezing assets and barring entry into Canada.

Petitions  Madam Speaker, the second petition highlights that proactive holisitic health practices play an important role in building immune system strength and help to keep people healthy. The petitioners are concerned that there is not enough focus on proactive health and wellness care. The petitioners request that the Government of Canada increase the focus on education and empowering Canadians on holistic approaches to optimize and maintain their natural immunity and well-being.

The Budget  Mr. Speaker, I would like to thank the hon. member for her tireless advocacy for seniors. I have been hearing from seniors in my riding who are upset that the OAS increase is for seniors over the age of 75. They think that the increase should begin at age 65. It is just a matter of fairness.

The Budget  Mr. Speaker, the hon. member mentioned biofuels in his speech. The B.C. government is looking at proposals to grind up whole trees and whole forests to create biofuel pellets for export. Is this what the government is referring to when it talks about biofuels in the budget.

The Budget  Madam Speaker, we have had decades of trickle-down economics with tax cuts to the wealthiest and to corporations, and this has not worked. When we put stimulus money into the economy and provide for people to ensure they can make ends meet, that is trickle-up economics. That money is spent in our communities and helps our economy grow.
