Agriculture committee  As you know, we take that situation very seriously, particularly as it pertains to livestock. There certainly have been tremendous initiatives put forward by Minister Day, by Minister Ritz, and by the Prime Minister himself, when he's met with the President. Even our committee travelled down to Washington to express our concerns certainly on country-of-origin labelling and the impact it's having on our Canadian livestock sector.

Agriculture committee  Within your federation and the organizations that you work with, what sorts of things are you proposing in that regard?

Agriculture committee  What kind of support are you getting from your producers for these types of initiatives?

Agriculture committee  Thank you. I just had a question about the sheep market. Unfortunately, I wasn't here for the beginning of your presentation, but certainly my experience, in talking with farmers of different livestock commodities, is that the marketplace plays a key role in the success of farmers.

Agriculture committee  Can you just tell me those dates?

Agriculture committee  All right. That was my key concern.

Agriculture committee  Mr. Chair, there is something I don't understand. Right now the schedule only shows one meeting for reviewing the report.

Agriculture committee  I propose we do that.

Agriculture committee  I recommend November 17 and 19, so that we're moving this up without moving into other areas prematurely. Our recommendation should read that we modify this report and study it on November 17 and 19. I'm not suggesting that anything else get removed. I'm just saying that it's a question of order.

Agriculture committee  Thank you, Chair. First I wanted to thank you, Chair, for having this subcommittee report in front of us. Mr. Valeriote might not know, but the subcommittee in fact just makes recommendations to the main committee, so I actually appreciate the fact that we have the report in front of us, that we have the opportunity to discuss it and then to amend it or to pass it or not pass it, whatever we see fit.

Agriculture committee  Perhaps another time. The other thing I wanted to mention, Chair—

Agriculture committee  Yes. Do not be intimidated by that.

Agriculture committee  Thank you, Chair. As a committee, we've done excellent work on competition. It covers a wide breadth. We've had a lot of different witnesses and I think we have some good recommendations to make. There are two things we have to decide. First, where do we start winding it up?

Agriculture committee  I think you're right. I want to make sure that we don't start putting too many other things in the way. We say we're stopping our witnesses so we can focus on the report. So we shouldn't flood the calendar with all sorts of other projects that we want to get moving on before we finish our report.
