Agriculture committee  Thanks. Where I'm coming from is that I've heard from a few farmers, and it's mostly the younger ones. They appreciate the programs, but the younger people don't ask, “Where's the forum for that?” They ask, “Where's the app for that?” I know the federal government funds these programs, but it doesn't necessarily deliver them.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I thank the member for that very good question. It allows me to articulate a policy that would do a great deal in terms of human rights promotion. Certainly our government has spoken about the need to advocate for human rights on the international stage. Promoting women's human rights is central to that.

Business of Supply  Is it the position of the member that, because of the alleged indivisibility of rights, we cannot emphasize any sets of rights except those the Liberal government chooses to prioritize? Is not the real question here that the government is now seeking to de-prioritize an emphasis on the growing wave of violent attacks on religious minorities around the world?

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I thank the hon. member for his question. Our government is determined to renew and strengthen human rights protection in Canada and abroad. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of International Development and La Francophonie received mandate letters instructing them to champion the values of inclusive and accountable governance, peaceful pluralism and respect for diversity, and human rights including the rights of women and refugees.

Human Resources committee  Once again, the idea that we have to provide information to the public is now a standard principle. In fact, even with something like this, I was involved with many small businesses, and most small businesses would find this cumbersome. This is about 10 or 20 pages long. The idea that you would be required to submit hundreds of pages of financial information annually not only would cause a huge red tape administrative burden for the unions, but in fact it also would have cost government itself, CRA, an extra $2 million annually to go through these reports to ensure that every box was checked off, that every little box was filled out.

Business of Supply  It is something the previous government did not do. We lost hundreds of jobs in aircraft maintenance in Winnipeg as a result of that, and we would like to see a change from the current government. However, so far, the language of the current government has not indicated that it is willing to do so.

Agriculture committee  Thank you very much. I fully understand your concern. We have it in our area too. There was a provision made for the fish processors. That had been done before. As you know, we have indicated a commitment to review this program, and we will. As I indicated, Minister Mihychuk is in charge of this.

Agriculture committee  Thank you very much. This is an issue that I see in my province too. As you know, there was a great problem with the temporary foreign workers over the last couple of years. It's not my ministry, of course, as you know. It's under Minister Mihychuk. She has indicated they're going to conduct a review.

Agriculture committee  Of course, if there is ever any problem with safe food, immediate action is taken, no matter what government is in place in this country. That's the way it always has been and that's the way it will be with us too, with this government. As I told you, I had heard from a number of stakeholders right across the country and there was some concern in western Canada and possibly in Quebec too about CFIA.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I believe that the promotion and protection of human rights, including freedom of religion or belief, is an integral part of Canada's leadership in the world. Our government is committed to reviewing and enhancing the human rights protections at home and abroad. The mandate letters of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of International Development refer to championing the values of inclusive and accountable governance, peaceful pluralism, and respect for diversity, including human rights for women and refugees.

Business of Supply  To get a true sense of the economic wasteland that would happen nationally if the opposition had its way, I will quote the volunteer non-profit Canadian organization, Working Canadians, which said, “Socialism in its various guises has never worked to the benefit of average, middle-class people”. Take the Liberal government of Kathleen Wynne as a real-time case in point. A number of recent developments in the province have focused the mind on how the current Ontario government’s policies are hurting, not helping, average Ontarians.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I do not know where the question was on the Office of Religious Freedom, but our government has made a pledge to help the most vulnerable refugees come to Canada. I am very proud to be part of a government that met its commitment of bringing 25,000 Syrian refugees to Canada.

Foreign Affairs  Mr. Speaker, Canada stands steadfast with Ukraine. We always have and we always will. We have been explicit in our condemnation of Russia's unlawful annexation of Crimea. The Russian interference and invasion of Ukrainian territory is completely unacceptable. We have one of the strongest sanctions in the world, strengthened further last week in order to apply economic pressure on Russia and the Putin government for its aggression.

Parks Canada  Mr. Speaker, my home, Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada's first incorporated city, established in 1783, deserves to have its story told, about its place in our nation's proud history. Unfortunately, national historic monuments like Martello Tower, Fort La Tour, Fort Howe, and Partridge Island are falling into ruin and have been ignored by previous governments.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, the member made reference to the industry. As such, my question will be based on that. Over the years, the aerospace industry has been impacted negatively. Its potential has not been fully recognized in Canada. It is important that government identify the importance of technology in moving forward and investing in our aerospace industry.
