Finance  Mr. Speaker, when I was a municipal councillor, I was approached by Merna Forster and was pleased to lead Oakville council calling on the Bank of Canada to include a prominent Canadian woman on one of our bank notes, which is something we have not seen in almost 150 years. Thousands of people from across the country signed a petition calling upon the government to highlight Canadian women on our money, recognizing the significant role that women have played in shaping our nation.

Foreign Affairs  Mr. Speaker, that could not be more misconstrued. As the minister explicitly said in his declaration yesterday, the Government of Canada is gravely concerned about the health of Nadiya Savchenko, who has been unlawfully detained by Russia. We have repeatedly underlined that her transfer to Russia was illegal, the charges brought against her are politically motivated, and her treatment during her detention is a matter of grave concern.

Social Development  Have there been other times, yes or no? Yesterday, I asked the Prime Minister about the government's promise for affordable, high-quality, flexible, and fully inclusive child care. It is at page 20 of his platform in case he has not been able to find it. Instead of giving us another talking point, could the Prime Minister simply tell us what is the government's budget for that specifically defined child care plan the Liberals boasted about in their platform?

Canada's Contribution to the Effort to Combat ISIL  Mr. Speaker, I will be splitting my time with the member for Don Valley East. I am proud to rise in the House today to endorse a motion that supports the government's decision to broaden, improve, and redefine Canada's contribution to the effort to combat ISIL. This decision will help better leverage Canadian expertise and complement the work of our coalition partners to ensure maximum effect.

Natural Resources  LNG projects are at risk. There is no deal on softwood lumber. We know making priorities is hard and maybe the government is just not ready yet, but it is a bad pattern. Canadians will start to have some joy when the Liberals give them hope that they have a real plan for the hundreds of thousands of workers whose jobs are on the line in our world-leading natural resources sector.

Business of Supply  Apparently, saying one thing then means doing another thing today. The Prime Minister responded to a question during question period, saying that the Liberal government will be opposing the opposition day motion today. He did not reference the fact that he would allow his members to vote freely. He arbitrarily said that his government will oppose.

Steel Industry  Mr. Speaker, the Canadian steel industry is paramount to our ability to grow the economy. It directly employs over 20,000 Canadians, and further 100,000 Canadians have jobs indirectly because of steel. The steel industry supplies essential materials to a variety of important sectors, including the automotive, manufacturing, mining, construction, and energy sectors, and it encourages innovation.

Canada's Contribution to the Effort to Combat ISIL  Mr. Speaker, I have been following the debate very closely, in particular the divergence in points of view on all sides of the House. I want to commend my colleagues here on all sides who have elevated the debate and who are keeping front and centre in their minds that we are really here speaking on behalf of 35 million Canadians, and that we have a special and perhaps even higher obligation, to make sure that we keep in mind we are also here because there are lives at stake: members of our Canadian Forces who are dedicated, members of our diplomatic corps, members of our international humanitarian assistance organizations and departments.

Canada's Contribution to the Effort to Combat ISIL  Madam Speaker, it is my privilege to rise today and add my voice to those who support the government's new strategy to combat ISIL. I want to stress that I am very proud of the work that Canadian Armed Forces members have done in this fight. They served their country with distinction and did Canada proud on the world stage.

Canada's Contribution to the Effort to Combat ISIL  Madam Speaker, I will be sharing my time with the hon. member for Sudbury. I am very pleased to take part in this debate on redefining the Canadian mission against the Islamic State. Two weeks ago, our government presented a detailed plan to broaden, improve, and redefine our contribution to the effort to combat ISIL.

Information & Ethics committee  Thank you very much, Madam Legault. It's always a pleasure to hear your comments. I want to talk about recommendation 4.5, but I want to put it into the context of recommendation 3.6: The Information Commissioner recommends that a third party is deemed to consent to disclosing its information when it fails to respond within appropriate timelines to a notice that an institution intends to disclose its information.

Business of Supply  That is a breach of contract and trust from the most important decision body there is, their government. Individuals' insurance agencies do not take it for granted, but our own government does it to our own population, and it does it with a focus on the most vulnerable. The most vulnerable are part-time employees, employees who do not accumulate hours, and employees who have a disability who work part-time when they are able and end up not being eligible for employment insurance.

Taxation  Economist Jack Mintz said that the net result would be a reduction in revenue. Has the government actually found an innovative way to reduce government revenue while raising taxes?

Subcommittee on International Human Rights committee  Religious groups are only allowed these fundamental rights in exchange for silence in the face of injustices committed by the government. The government only bestows approval and privileges to those people who follow the guidelines and the instructions of the government. On the contrary, other religious practices and religious ceremonies and instructions that are not compatible with the government are not allowed.

Business of Supply  This is about a political tactic and whether we agree with that political tactic or not. The House, supported by the Liberal government of the day, is supporting actions for the government to condemn any attempts made by individuals or organizations. Those organizations would include the two million members of the United Church of Canada, who, whether rightly or wrongly, have decided that they support the divestment movement.
