Finance  Mr. Speaker, everyone knows but the Liberals that we cannot spend our way out of debt. The latest estimates are that the Liberal budget will inflict $150 billion in new debt on Canadians without creating economic growth. When will the Liberal government wake up and start managing the public purse responsibly so that our children and grandchildren will not be buried under a mountain of Liberal debt?

Canada's Contribution to the Effort to Combat ISIL  Would he not agree that Canadians have a certain expectation and, at the very least, that expectation was reaffirmed in the last federal election when Canadians supported the Liberal Party forming government? That made a very clear statement that the CF-18s needed to be pulled out and Canada needed to refocus, and that is exactly what this motion is doing.

Public Safety  On two terrible days this past October, two members of the Canadian Armed Forces were killed simply for wearing their uniforms. That is why our Conservative government has put forward the anti-terrorism act, 2015. It will create new tools for our police to protect us from jihadi terrorists. It is also why we have increased resources to our police forces by one-third since we formed government.

Status of Women committee  Thank you so much, Marilyn, for your very kind words. I appreciate that. I've started making my way around, but I'm a talker, so I didn't get all the way around. I hope to get to know all of you in a little more detail soon. Madam Chair, I welcome the opportunity to appear before this committee today.

Canada's Contribution to the Effort to Combat ISIL  We are having a series of days of debate on it, and we have heard member after member, from the Liberal caucus in particular, talking about the things that the Liberal government is doing, headed by the current Prime Minister. There is a great deal of accountability and transparency.

Environment committee  It has acted as a tent peg for the government's actions. Whether it was Liberal or Conservative, that didn't matter. This committee in the past has maintained a fierce independence over what it does. We are informed by outside forces.

Subcommittee on International Human Rights committee  I went to the University of Manitoba to obtain my master's in geophysics and I worked for geophysical companies here in Canada until 2005 when a peace agreement was signed between the then rebels, the Sudan People's Liberation Army and the Government of Sudan in Khartoum. I was called by the people who wanted me to represent them in Parliament. By then, MPs were appointed as part of the agreement of the CPA.

Income Tax Act  Bill C-2 would increase the national debt, penalize those who have worked hard and prospered, while also limiting the amount that Canadians can save, while doing nothing for those earning less than $45,000 a year. The Liberal government inherited a $400 million surplus. We, as the official opposition, will continue to protect the hard-earned money of Canadians from the high-tax, high-spend agenda of the government.

Economic Action Plan 2015 Act, No. 1  Some studies have shown that this might be an incentive for the other spouse not to work outside the home. More often than not, the woman is the person who stays home. I remind members that the former finance minister was highly critical of this idea and recommended that it not be supported. What is the cost of this tax measure? It will cost the federal government $2 billion a year.

Canada's Contribution to the Effort to Combat ISIL  Speaker, as we are winding this debate down, I thought we should do a kind of compare and contrast. On the advise-and-assist mission, the Liberal Party is proposing a mission three times the size of the Conservative mission. The Liberal Party is proposing a mission on intelligence twice the size. Actually, the Conservatives are not proposing any intelligence mission whatsoever.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I will be splitting my time with the member for Central Nova. I am quite pleased to speak to the motion that suggests certain changes be made to the employment insurance system. I agree with many of the changes that are in the NDP motion, with one major exception, and that is the 360-hour component.

Opposition Motion—Job Creation  No credible government spokesperson can tell us exactly how these jobs were created by the economic situation or climate resulting from the government's economic policies. In fact, I even doubt that they intend to use the government and its resources for the greater good or to create this favourable business climate.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I am very happy to join the debate on the motion. I would like to inform the House that I will be sharing my time with the member for Kenora. I just had a conversation with the member for Kenora, who was in the House quite a few years prior to this, and he said this is probably more about the fact that the NDP want to be seen as pushing the government to make change.

Canada's Contribution to the Effort to Combat ISIL  Could the minister comment? This was an election issue. It is a well-thought-out plan with respect to what the Liberal Party, today's government, has talked about for quite a while. We said that the CF-18s were going to be pulled out. This government has a caring attitude and we have come up with a plan for Canada to play a more prominent role in ensuring more peace into the future.

Income Tax Act  However, people need action now. I would have preferred to hear the government begin by talking about right now, talking about what it is doing and bringing in right now. Unfortunately, in many of today's speeches, the Liberals are still talking about the future, about plans, and about what it intends to do in the future, when people have real needs now and they cannot wait until March or later to see these much-anticipated changes take place.
