Indigenous and Northern Affairs committee  No, that's fine. Mr. Chairman, I have another question. I think the minister already answered this, but I still see issues such as the harmonization proposal on the table. That was introduced by the previous government, and I'm hoping it's not something we're going to honour as a new government.

Indigenous and Northern Affairs committee  I have one final question, and it's regarding being consistent in negotiations. We have a lot of issues across the Northwest Territories on cross-border land claim negotiations on land on different sides of the borders. We have the Densuline, who have a claim in the Northwest Territories that was put forward.

Citizenship Act  Mr. Speaker, I will be very clear that the changes in Bill C-24 passed by the Conservative government in 2014 turned millions of Canadians into second-class citizens with fewer rights than other Canadians. The changes were discriminatory, anti-immigrant, and un-Canadian. Bill C-6 would simply undo these changes.

Industry committee  It means that committees must take the time to study important issues of the day, that we must hear from stakeholders and issue reports for the benefit of the public and guide the government. It's important that we're able to carry out our role as parliamentarians to provide oversight to the executive branch of government. That's why it was disappointing when we had the Liberal members of this committee vote against inviting Bombardier executives to come to speak with this committee to lay out their case—

Foreign Affairs committee  Thank you, Chair. First, thanks to all three of you for taking the time to come and present to us. It's very insightful, and the testimony today has been very thought through. Ms. Delahanty, I'd like you to touch on what you said on the government progress reports and the lack of specificity in what is allocated to gender inequality and women's rights.

Status of Women committee  Absolutely. As we move forward in this new government, what we really want to do is make sure that the money we're spending shows concrete results for Canadians and that we can prove not just outputs but outcomes. So if you know anything about evaluation—which it sounds like you know a little bit about—there are two things we measure: outputs, which are things like reports, documents, and research; and then outcomes.

Indigenous and Northern Affairs committee  The engagement strategy is an interesting one, and we think we probably do need to do that. I must say that on my trip to the AFN in December, I found different regions had different approaches to the idea of an engagement strategy. I think there were a couple of nights that I was there until 11 o'clock, speed dating with each of the chiefs and councils.

Government Operations committee  Interestingly enough, I attended a session on homelessness last night. Part of the discussion was on the availability of existing federal buildings and how we could make them available, instead of selling them for the maximum dollar, as was previously done. From this government's perspective, we have to have more of a social conscience.

Indigenous and Northern Affairs committee  Thank you, Mr. Chair. First of all, I want to thank you and Yvonne Jones, the parliamentary secretary, for coming to the Northwest Territories. You were very appreciated in your discussions in Yellowknife and Norman Wells. I see that we have two challenges left as we move forward.

Government Operations committee  We have started already by having an extensive consultation process with small and medium-sized businesses, and industry generally. We have a supplier advisory group that we meet with on a regular basis. It's really important to engage them to find out what the barriers have been to small and medium-sized enterprises being successful in accessing government opportunities.

Status of Women committee  Thank you so much, Madam Chair, and thank you for allowing me to come on such short notice. I'm thrilled to be able to be here. I've brought with me my incredible team from Status of Women to answer the really difficult questions, as they are training me up. Without further ado, I'll get started.

Citizenship Act  Mr. Speaker, I appreciate the opportunity to speak here today to express my support for Bill C-6, an act to amend the Citizenship Act and to make consequential amendments to another act. I plan to vote in favour of the bill, and I encourage all of my hon. colleagues to do the same.

International Trade  During the 13 years the Liberals were in power, they never had a CSR policy. It was this government that introduced this very important strategy.

Citizenship Act  I am an immigrant myself, so I will ask a question on behalf of the immigrant communities that I have been speaking to. The member talked about the language requirement and how his government is reversing what it used to be. He must know that past Liberal governments, between 1977 and 1984, and between 1993 and 2005, had a language requirement for the aged 55 to 64 bracket.

Citizenship Act  Mr. Speaker, I appreciated the member's comments. He articulated a very important issue. The bill does in fact rectify a number of issues that the Conservative government had raised. The question I would like to ask the member is related to the whole issue of getting one's citizenship.
