Canada Post  Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to continue this evening in the debate on the future of Canada Post. I am inspired by the enthusiasm and the engagement of Canadians on this subject. During the election, we committed to end the further installation of community mailboxes that began under the previous government.

International Trade  During the 13 years the Liberals were in power, they never had a CSR policy. It was this government that introduced this very important strategy.

Takeover of Stelco  Instead, foreign investments have been approved despite the fact that they were motivated simply by a desire to gain control of Canada's strategic industries and resources. Sadly, that seems to be just fine by the Conservative government. Let us review what has been happening in Hamilton. U.S. Steel acquired the former operations of Stelco Inc. in 2007. That included both Hilton Works in Hamilton and Lake Erie Works in Nanticoke.

Finance committee  Thank you very much, Mr. Chair, and thank you to the entire committee for inviting me here. It's a pleasure to be here, and of course, it's my honour to appear before you for the first time as Minister of Finance. I want to thank you for your work not only in keeping the government to account, but in ensuring that Canadians are heard throughout the parliamentary process.

Employment Insurance  Mr. Speaker, Canadians have asked us to do things differently. They want to trust in a government that puts their best interests first, and they expect us to deliver on what matters most to them. What does matter? For almost a decade, the top-of-mind issue for the majority of Canadians has been jobs and the economy.

Bahá’i Community in Iran  As former Iranian Canadian political prisoner Maziar Bahari put it, and the slogan for this global campaign reads, we can light a candle on their behalf.

Canada's Contribution to the Effort to Combat ISIL  Mr. Speaker, I will be splitting my time with the hon. member for Avignon—La Mitis—Matane—Matapédia. I rise today to speak in support of the government's motion and the overdue reorientation of our mission against Daesh to reflect a more comprehensive, robust, and effective contribution to the international coalition against this heinous and barbaric terrorist group.

Subcommittee on International Human Rights committee  Religious groups are only allowed these fundamental rights in exchange for silence in the face of injustices committed by the government. The government only bestows approval and privileges to those people who follow the guidelines and the instructions of the government. On the contrary, other religious practices and religious ceremonies and instructions that are not compatible with the government are not allowed.

Air Transportation  Mr. Speaker, the Liberals have been evasive for months when asked about Bombardier's billion-dollar deal. Finally, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development stood up yesterday to say that the government has a plan for Bombardier.

Housing  Mr. Speaker, I thank the hon. member for her helpful suggestions. As promised during the election, our government is committed to developing a strategy to re-establish the federal role in support of affordable housing. The strategy will prioritize investments in affordable housing and seniors housing over the next 10 years.

Citizenship Act  Mr. Speaker, I wonder what his experiences in the election campaign were like and what he thinks about the hundreds of thousands of Canadians with dual citizenship who will be affected by Bill C-24. I talked to Americans, people from Europe, and a lot of people from the Middle East in my riding who felt, to be honest, let down by the government.

Foreign Affairs committee  Okay. Mr. Browder, I was curious about one last point. As I understand it, Mr. Cotler did present a private member's bill on a couple of occasions to the House of Commons under the previous government. Those attempts failed, obviously, or you wouldn't be here. Was there any reason that the previous government felt strongly not to move on Mr.

Citizenship Act  Mr. Speaker, I believe that was the Fair Elections Act, which the previous government brought in. We have a very ambitious electoral reform package, and we have a very competent and articulate minister who is open for ideas and thoughts. I would suggest, for the member, that he might want to share his concerns, as other members have done, in regard to the Elections Canada Act.

Indigenous and Northern Affairs committee  As you saw in the mandate letter, I am charged with evolving a new fiscal relationship. You've heard many first nations say they would rather have a transfer than little grants that give them a little money for this, a little money for that, but they don't dare move money from here over to here, because they're going to get caught.
