Federal Public Sector Labour Relations Act  Mr. Speaker, I appreciate the member's speech. It was interesting to hear him speak on this legislation and give us a historical perspective of where we have been with the North-West Mounted Police, and how we have come to this point where we are now debating this bill to extend bargaining rights to RCMP personnel.

Citizenship Act  Mr. Speaker, I would like to thank the member for his question, but I am not sure it has anything to do with the bill we are debating today. My children are currently learning French in Calgary. The French language is very much alive in western Canada, and many people from Quebec have moved there.

Citizenship Act  Mr. Speaker, I do have Yiddish proverbs, but I do not want to start a battle of Yiddish proverbs back and forth with other members. I do love them, though. On people who renounce their citizenship nowadays, there is a line that is used on that side, which is 2016. I think we can go beyond just looking at CIC forms or a file with a department for those people who choose to renounce it for reasons of violent disloyalty to our country.

Citizenship Act  Mr. Speaker, as I have done before in many previous speeches in this House, I will start with a Yiddish proverb: if you walk straight, you will not stumble. This bill stumbles. It zigs and it zags. It takes too many leaps where a few minor tweaks would do. I want to quote the late George Jonas, National Post columnist and fantastic author, who sadly passed away January 10 of this year, on patriotism and citizenship.

Citizenship Act  Mr. Speaker, I would like to thank my colleague for his speech. I immigrated to Canada with my family in 1985. My wife is also an immigrant. She arrived from Singapore in 1990. As the member knows, reducing the number of days that a person must be physically present in Canada before applying for citizenship and taking that into account does not really have anything to do with diversity.

Citizenship Act  Mr. Speaker, I am glad that the member spoke about hyphenated Canadians. I am an immigrant myself, so I will ask a question on behalf of the immigrant communities that I have been speaking to. The member talked about the language requirement and how his government is reversing what it used to be.

Canada's Contribution to the Effort to Combat ISIL  Madam Speaker, I was listening attentively to the member's speech. He talked about allies, so let us talk about our allies, the courageous Kurdish peshmerga from the Kurdish regional government fighting ISIS, fighting these terrorist organizations. Let us talk about Falah Mustafa Bakir, who is the foreign minister.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, it is about leadership. That is what we are asking the House to express, and for the government to express as well. In this case we are not condemning specific individuals, but are condemning ideas. We are condemning specific movements, not the individuals who take part in them.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, that is an excellent question. It is because we Canadians stand on principle. We believe in things; we believe in them, and we speak up for them. I would like to point out that Omar Barghouti, the founder of the BDS movement, has come out against the two-state solution.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, the member spoke very eloquently earlier in his comments. I just call a spade a spade. I believe in calling it what it is, and if it is racist, it is racist. Not all campaigners for BDS are. There are situations of people through sheer ignorance, like the member from Thornhill pointed out, who support these causes.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I want to thank my learned colleague from Thornhill, my colleagues, the members from Calgary Nose Hill and Parry Sound—Muskoka, for the contributions so far to this debate. This matter is personal to me. My wife Evangeline has Jewish heritage and my father-in-law, Winfred Winfield, is also Jewish by birth.

Canada's Contribution to the Effort to Combat ISIL  Madam Speaker, I thank the minister for his service to our country as the first Sikh regimental commander, a lieutenant-colonel when he left the forces. I appreciate his service, I appreciate his speech, but I do disagree with him and I disagree with the motion of the House. I think of this matter as a three-legged stool: we have to do humanitarian work, training, and air strikes.

Rare Disease Day  Mr. Speaker, later this month, on February 29, we will mark Rare Disease Day. The day raises awareness of the estimated 2.7 million Canadians directly affected by over 6,000 rare diseases and disorders. That is roughly one in 12 persons. Of these diseases, 75% affect children, and 30% of those affected will die before their fifth birthday.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I listened attentively to the hon. member's speech. It is always interesting to hear him talk. I would like to bring up two reports. In 2015 Canada was ranked number one in the world by the Reputation Institute. We did not get there by doing nothing for 10 years.

Income Tax Act  Mr. Speaker, I thank the hon. member for his question. I did skip one little paragraph in my speech because my time was running out. I would also like to say that my constituents work hard for their money. Telling them that their tax-free savings account is going to be eliminated is disrespectful.
