Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada They know the Liberal Party would raise the GST. They know the Liberal Party would impose a job-killing carbon tax. They know the Liberal Party would eliminate the universal child care benefit. The leader of the Liberal Party should stand up in the House today, come clean with Canadians and tell them which taxes he will raise, by how much he will raise them and who will be forced to pay these higher taxes.

Taxation The Liberal Party even passed a policy at its recent convention reaffirming its support of a job-killing carbon tax. Now the Liberals' new plan is to create a 45-day work year. The Liberal plan would lead to massive increases in job-killing payroll taxes, an increase in taxes that would hurt workers and small businesses alike.

Adjournment Proceedings The Liberal leader embracing the discredited tax-and-spend liberalism, as he muses about increasing the GST and imposing a new carbon tax, is clearly not what Canada's economy requires. I ask the member opposite whether she agree with her leader's demand that Canadians must pay higher taxes.

Taxation He says that the solution to high gas prices is even higher taxes on gas and electricity for Canadian families and businesses. This weekend the Liberal leader said that he was “very seriously” considering a carbon tax. This follows support and openness to a carbon tax by the Liberal members from Toronto Centre, Halton, Ottawa South and Don Valley West, as well as the Liberals' star candidate, Elizabeth May.

Agriculture committee So I can't emphasize enough the need to support this motion, because we need to get the document that the government is trying to cover up. I might mention, if Mr. Lauzon wants to get into it—he talked about carbon tax—that there's one difference between Stéphane Dion and Stephen Harper. Stéphane Dion put it all out there where everyone can see it. You know that Environment Canada has a document called Turning the Corner that talks about a $65 per tonne carbon tax that the Conservatives would impose, but the tax is in secret, not telling Canadians what you're going pose on them down the line.

The Environment Speaker, the government of the United States is following France's lead and preparing to impose a carbon tax on polluters who refuse to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. Rather than putting its energy into convincing oil companies to reduce their emissions, the Minister of the Environment is going to Washington to ask Americans to lower their standards.

Taxation The Liberal leader himself said quite bluntly, “We will have to raise taxes”. The Liberal Party supports a job-killing carbon tax, and members of the Liberal Party said that they would raise the GST. In fact, the leader of the Liberal Party even refers to himself as a tax and spend Liberal. Raising taxes is the absolute worst thing to do during a recession.

International Trade committee You also mentioned carbon pricing. What model do you think we need exactly? The Liberals talked about a carbon tax, and let's say that this isn't necessarily the right way to present the idea in marketing terms. We know that the Conservatives bashed all that. To prevent this environmental dumping, we clearly have to do something.

First-Time Homebuyers Tax Credit This new program will help hard-working Canadian families. While the Liberal leader is planning to raise the GST and impose a job-killing carbon tax, Canada's economic action plan is helping Canadians with one of life's most significant purchases. Conservatives are standing up for Canadian families who wish to better their lives.

Taxation He gives us hints with his words on that too: “We've got to have popular, practical, believable policies that may include some form of carbon tax”. He also said, “I'm not going to take a GST hike off the table”. Lately he has even risen in the House of Commons to say that he wants a “radically expensive EI plan that would force payroll taxes to rise”.

The Economy I know the Leader of the Opposition will be delighted to see that spending. All those projects will do a lot more for the economy than the carbon tax, the increased GST, the increased EI payroll taxes and all the taxes that the Liberal Party wants.

Liberal Party of Canada Recently the Liberal leader announced that he “will have to raise taxes”. Raising taxes, imposing a job-killing carbon tax, increasing the GST, and ending the universal child care benefit are part of the Liberal plan during tough economic times to discourage economic growth and tax Canadian families. The Liberals refuse to come clean with Canadians and explain the full details of their new economic policy.

House debate He also said, on December 18, “I'm not going to take a GST hike off the table”. He said that he supported a carbon tax. In fact, he was the father of the idea and led his party to adopt it in the last election campaign. He has written about it and he has supported it. As late as a couple of months ago, he indicated, once again, that he favoured taxing home heating fuel, the transportation of essential goods and services and a brand new tax that would apply to our factories and warehouses and all the industries, industries that are suffering right now under a global recession.

Taxation This is in stark contrast to the Liberals, who last weekend reaffirmed their eternal commitment to raising taxes on Canadians. At their recent convention, the Liberals once again adopted a job-killing carbon tax policy which would devastate agriculture in my riding. We also know they want to increase the GST and end the universal child care benefit. To make things even worse, the leader of the Liberal Party recently announced that he will have to raise taxes.
