Housing  Mr. Speaker, the Conservatives are not really serious about housing affordability because every single time we have brought a measure here to enable Canadians to be able to afford a home, they have voted against it, including the first-time homebuyers incentive and all the measures that we have brought in.

Housing  Mr. Speaker, the Conservatives face a leadership problem on this issue. They have never spoken about affordable housing. They did not invest adequately in all their time in office. In their election campaign platform, the words “affordable housing” did not show up, neither did they show up in their opposition house motion.

Housing  Why did they vote against the rapid housing initiative, which has housed over 10,000 households and lifted people's lives up and enabled them not just to get by, but to get ahead? We know what works. The Conservatives have no credibility on this issue.

Housing  We brought in the greening homes initiative. On all of those measures that help middle-class Canadians, what did the Conservatives do? They voted against them each and every time.

Housing  I want to welcome the opportunity to remind those spreading misinformation that our government is not considering charging capital gains or surtaxes on primary residences. Any suggestion otherwise, including from the Conservative Party, is absolutely false. While they continue to make up claims, we will focus on making sure each and every Canadian has access to a safe and affordable place to call home.

Housing  Speaker, the fact of the matter is that it has been a long time since the member opposite has spoken about affordable housing. He has found it fashionable to talk about it, but here is the record. Every time we have put forward measures to help first-time home buyers access affordable housing, help the most vulnerable in our communities to access permanent housing solutions, or help women and children fleeing domestic violence to get rental support, he has voted against these measures.

Housing  Since coming into office, we have invested over $27 billion; brought in the national housing strategy; and brought in measures to help Canadians with housing supply, access to affordable housing, rent supports and so on. When the Conservatives had the opportunity to do the right thing last night by voting in a tax against foreign home buyers they voted against it, so they have no credibility on this issue.

Housing  Mr. Speaker, the problem the Conservatives face is that before the election they had done nothing on affordable housing. They proposed no clear policy ideas. For nine years in government, they invested zero dollars in affordable housing.

Housing  Mr. Speaker, the problem the Conservatives face is that for nine years in power, they did not really invest in affordable housing. They did not have a program like the first-time home buyer incentive. In fact, they downloaded housing responsibility and investments in housing onto the provinces and municipalities.

Housing  Since coming into office, we have invested over $27 billion in affordable housing and have helped over a million families find the housing that they need. Despite the petty political games from the Conservative Party, we have a real housing plan that includes a new $4-billion housing accelerator fund, a more flexible first-time homebuyers program and a rent-to-own program. We will not rest until every Canadian has a safe and affordable place to call home.

Housing  Mr. Speaker, Canadians can see through that partisan rhetoric. The fact is that Conservatives invested zero dollars in co-ops, and they unloaded housing costs to municipalities and provinces. The reason we have a housing crisis is because they had no leadership in housing for their time in office.

Housing  Mr. Speaker, the Conservative record on housing is $250 million a year spent on affordable housing. We have spent more than $27 billion on affordable housing since we came into office. In budget 2021 alone there is $315 million more for Canadian women and children fleeing domestic violence and more rental supplements.

Housing  Since coming into office, we have invested over $27.4 billion in affordable housing. What is the Conservative record? It is $250 million a year. Those are the facts. It is really interesting to see a party that voted against the Canada housing benefit, that votes against the national housing co-investment fund and that votes against the rental construction financing initiative get up and fake outrage.

Housing  Speaker, we introduced the first-time home buyer incentive to help first-time home buyers in Canada achieve their dream of home ownership. Do members know what the Conservative Party's record is for helping first-time home buyers? It is virtually non-existent. During its time in office, the only policy that side of the House could come up with was to provide a $750 tax credit for first-time home buyers.

Housing  In addition to that, we are spending more money than ever before across all the different spectra of the housing needs of Canadians, and the Conservatives have said that they will vote against the budget. That is their real record. The are entitled to their opinions, but—
