Rail Transportation Madam Speaker, our government is developing the best approach to delivering a safe, efficient, and reliable passenger rail service in Canada. As such, the Minister of Transport is working with VIA Rail, in the coming months, to fully assess our options. That is why, in budget 2016, we allocated $45 million to various VIA Rail projects, including $34.4 million for the improvements of stations and maintenance centres, as well as $3.3 million, over three years, to support an in-depth assessment of VIA Rail's high-frequency rail proposal.

Business of Supply Mr. Speaker, it is so important to the people of London West, London—Fanshawe, London North Centre, Elgin—Middlesex—London that the jobs at General Dynamics Land Systems stay in place. There is no reason for any of the questions about human rights to be discounted, but these jobs will continue as long as we as a government make sure the right questions are asked of everyone along the way.

Business of Supply Of course, Mr. Speaker, human rights are very important. There is no question here. That is not what we are debating. The point is that we already have an international trade committee and an international foreign affairs committee, and it is within their rights to debate these very issues.

Business of Supply Mr. Speaker, I think I answered that by saying it would be redundant to have a subcommittee when we already have committees in place that can handle this very topic. I question why members opposite do not respect that committee, why they think they should have another committee deal with this.

Our government recognized the need for a collaborative approach in addressing the CTA review and in developing Canada's future transportation system. Since the report's tabling, the minister has actively engaged with Canadian stakeholders, provinces and territories, and indigenous groups to hear their views and discuss ideas.
