Veterans Week  Mr. Speaker, I rise in the House today to honour veterans across this country and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice. During Veterans Week, I met and talked to dozens of veterans. Whether it was over breakfast at the Hanover Legion, or after Remembrance Day services in Tara, Chatsworth, and Owen Sound, it was an honour to personally thank veterans of Bruce—Grey—Owen Sound.

Chapman's  Mr. Speaker, I rise in the House today to recognize Markdale's own Chapman's ice cream. For decades, the people of Bruce—Grey—Owen Sound have known that Chapman's ice cream is the best in the world. Now it has the awards to prove it. Chapman's brought home three trophies at this year's International Ice Cream Consortium awards in Barcelona, Spain.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, I would like to thank my friends and colleagues from Dauphin—Swan River—Neepawa and Peace River—Westlock for their very kind comments. However, the bottom line is that what they spoke about is true. This is a non-partisan bill. I have been a proud hunter and angler, and I love the outdoors.

Modernizing Animal Protections Act  Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to rise in the House today to speak to Bill C-246, modernizing animal protections act. I want to start by saying that before my life in this place, I was a full-time beef farmer. All the livestock farmers I know have pets, dogs, and I was no different.

Government Expenditures  Mr. Speaker, all of a sudden we have another minister of cover-up. Like my own memory sometimes, I believe the minister's memory seems to be past its best before date. I mean that, of course, in a very comforting way. However, to be serious here, does the minister really think it is appropriate to move one of his staff from Thailand to Ottawa and then expect the taxpayer to pay for it?

Government Expenditures  Mr. Speaker, when the Minister of Immigration first responded to my Order Paper question, instantly the response was that none of his staff got any money for moving expenses. However, when he was caught with his hand in the U-Haul—I mean in the cookie jar—all of a sudden he remembered that he had okayed the expenses to move one of his staff all the way from Thailand.

Government Expenditures  Mr. Speaker, if I had any hair, with an answer like that, I would pull the rest of it out. If I had known that a U-Haul was this expensive, I would have offered to take a load of stuff for Gerry in my Ford F-150. The fact is that this is classical Liberal entitlement. The government keeps repeating that these were policies that have been in place for years.

Government Expenditures  Mr. Speaker, I have always taken pride in my math. It has always been pretty good, but I will tell members that I have been racking my brain trying to think of how it is possible for someone to rack up more than $120,000 in moving expenses to move down the 401 from Toronto to Ottawa.

National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians Act  Mr. Speaker, I thank the member for a great question and a dead-on observation. Of course giving lip service is all that this is doing. The committee is just a figurehead, so to speak. The Prime Minister, in his instructions to the minister, obviously has told the minister to draft this legislation so that basically the Prime Minister has final say.

National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians Act  Mr. Speaker, I have seen the red face and the thrust from the member from Malpeque for years. With all due respect to the member, it is not that I doubt that the parliamentarians on that committee would do their job, but at the end of the day, if the Prime Minister did not agree with them, he would veto it.

National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians Act  Mr. Speaker, the member for Haliburton—Kawartha Lakes—Brock is a relatively new colleague in the House and one for whom I have gained a lot of respect. He asked a great question. I am not going to pretend I have figured out how a Liberal mind works, but at the same time, I am not going to be naive enough to tell him that it will get better.

National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians Act  Mr. Speaker, I want to thank my colleague on the other side for his question, and welcome him to this very prestigious place. There are just two points I want to make. Not once did I or anyone from this side, to my recollection, say that we should not have this kind oversight or committee with our security intelligence agencies.
