Health committee  Dr. Tam, are you considering any change to the four-month dosing delay for the Pfizer vaccine at this time?

Health committee  When you're talking about boosters, you're talking about the same vaccine, just given a third time, right?

Health committee  Thank you. This is to Dr. Lucas. In December the vaccine injury support program was announced. On what day will Canadians be able to apply to access this program?

Health committee  Is it fair to say that Canadians may need three doses of the Pfizer vaccine if they experience an extended dosing interval?

Health committee  Lucas, have you given the government any advice regarding the need for educating the public on risks associated with waning immunity associated with an extended dosing interval, particularly with the Pfizer vaccine?

Health committee  Did our lack of domestic manufacturing capacity for a virus-based platform vaccine lead to a higher premium with the AstraZeneca vaccine?

Health committee  Are you concerned that without having some certainty or information about this in public, that Canadians might not be getting the message on this? I want people to take vaccines, but statements like “vaccines aren't a panacea”.... As the chief public health officer, when you say that, do you have concerns that it might cause concern among Canadians, or that they might ask, why bother?

Health committee  The same data that I referenced earlier from Ontario, which was just released, actually, while we were in this meeting, showed that the R0 on the variants is considerably higher than for the original strain; data is showing that our vaccination rate is failing to keep up with variant spread. According to your department's projections, how many Canadians would have to be vaccinated every week to get ahead of the reproductive rate of variants by the end of May?

April 16th, 2021Committee meeting

Michelle RempelConservative

Health committee  No. Mr. Stewart, you just said in regard to R0, that you're not using vaccination rates in terms of.... Of course vaccinations bend the curve. Why would you say something like that?

April 16th, 2021Committee meeting

Michelle RempelConservative

Health committee  I appreciate that. I'd like to go back to Mr. Stewart. Mr. Stewart, I need to understand this. How are vaccination rates being calculated by Health Canada in terms of using that information to “bend the curve”? I'm just curious. Why did you say we're using public health measures? Are vaccinations not part of that?

Health committee  Deputy Matthews, Reuters reported that deliveries of Moderna COVID-19 vaccines are on track to meet the number of doses it promised the European Union this month, but that there are no disruptions—that is, there are no disruptions for the European Union—and yet Canada has seen its supply of the vaccine disrupted from the manufacturer.

Questions Passed as Orders for Returns  With regard to the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) and Health Canada respectively: (a) what scientific evidence, expert opinions, and other factors went into the decision to extend the dosing schedule up to four months between doses of the COVID-19 vaccines; and (b) what is the summary of the minutes of each meeting the NACI had in which dosing timelines were discussed?

Health  Speaker, CNN's Jake Tapper just called that type of spin, “Tru-Anon”. I really hope that sticks. Canadians deserve better. There are zoo animals being vaccinated in the United States while Quebec is reporting a wave of femicides because women are locked down with their abusers. The variants are spreading across the country. If we had had vaccines in January and February while the rest of the world was rolling them out, we would not be in this situation.
