Fisheries committee  That's great. It's very interesting. If I asked you whether you thought IUU fishing was well managed in Canada, how would you respond to that?

Fisheries committee  Okay. Thanks. I'll go to Mr. Hawkins now, because we're kind of in the same sector. You were talking about logbooks, Mr. Hawkins, having more data or accurate data. Are you talking about the same logbook that some of the fishermen are using now, which your people are working with them on?

Fisheries committee  Do you think that this data that you got is accurate?

Fisheries committee  Okay. Thank you. Ms. Metallic, thanks for being with us. I think you're only two hours away from where I am right now in Caraquet. Sometimes it's very difficult to ask questions when it comes to first nations in the fishery sector, as you know. There was a lot that happened in my region, especially in the year 2000.

Fisheries committee  Thank you, Mr. Chair. Thanks to all of the witnesses for being with us this afternoon. I'll start with Mr. Young. I looked at the document you provided us. I saw that you invited a Mr. Mike Kelloway to speak to your group. If you want to have better people talking next time, we can certainly help you on that front.

Fisheries committee  Perfect. Just to make sure, your organization uses technology to monitor those boats. Is that what I read in the document?

Fisheries committee  Thank you, Mr. Allen. Ms. Sonnenberg, I have about 30 seconds left. In your testimony you talked about how we have to “define clearly”. I guess you were talking about defining more clearly the rules around lobster fisheries or other fisheries when it comes to a particular group.

Fisheries committee  Thank you, Chair. I’d like to thank the witnesses for being here today. I'll start with Mr. Allen. We've heard a lot about the illegal, unreported and unregulated fisheries during the last couple of years. Do you feel that the fisheries officers on the water clearly watch what is happening, or do you think that sometimes they close their eyes to some of those fisheries that are occurring?

Fisheries committee  Okay. I'm going to go to some different questions. We've heard a lot about dockside monitoring. We had some chats—you, your association and me—regarding dockside monitoring. A lot of people who are coming to our committee for this study have said that dockside monitoring can be a solution for this illegal, unreported and unregulated fishery.

Fisheries committee  I'm talking about the lobster fishery now.

Fisheries committee  Can you give examples?

Fisheries committee  Mr. Allen, are you still fishing lobster?

Fisheries committee  Okay. You talked about this, and we also hear a lot about managing resources and that in some areas the resources are going down. Let's say five more licences are added in your fishing area. Will this be a bad thing, or would it have no impact on the resources? How would you see that, if there were five more lobster licences in your area, for example?
