I am particularly interested in understanding the impact, because we say we can do it in a number of ways, but I'm trying to figure out, as we go into the next few months, how that impacts the translation bureau, given that you're probably anticipating, outside of this committee, a large number of documents coming through.

Honourable colleagues, members of Parliament, distinguished witnesses and fellow Canadians who are following this meeting live today, welcome to meeting number 29 of the Special Joint Committee on the Declaration of Emergency, which was established pursuant to the orders of the House of Commons and the Senate on March 2 and 3, 2022.

Declaration of Emergency committee  Thank you very much. Thanks for all the comments. I started out thinking that we weren't going to get very far, and I think we are coming to an end. I as well have been here for almost two years. I think we need to think about the impacts of various decisions that will come. I don't disagree on taking into account what Justice Mosley has said, but I also want to remind you about what we have to work with.

Declaration of Emergency committee  No, I'm just speaking strictly to this. I share the concern that Mr. Virani raised, because I asked the same question around the reference to the Senate in here. I'm wondering whether this is something that.... I guess I'm not proposing anything. I'm just putting my position on the table.

Declaration of Emergency committee  Mr. Chair, while I appreciate the thrust of it, I am concerned in terms of the role that we're asking the law clerks to play. I'm not sure that's the role they play. I've been upfront in my concern on this in the previous motion, and for that reason, I wouldn't be able to support it.

Declaration of Emergency committee  Within the list—and because I don't have the list in front of me, I don't know—there may be, and I suspect there are, people who have already appeared before the Rouleau commission, in which case we already have their evidence. I just think that if I'm on the receiving end of “we want more information” when I've already testified under oath, it doesn't make sense to me.

Declaration of Emergency committee  Do we have any other interventions on the proposed amendment?

Declaration of Emergency committee  For the mover of the amendment, I'm wondering whether it is essential to seek it from everybody or whether we could prioritize the witnesses who have not appeared before the commission. Some of the people you would send to have already appeared before the commission, I think. I'm just wondering if you would give....
