The Budget  Madam Speaker, I wish to advise the House that I will be splitting my time with the member for Perth—Wellington. With the cameras rolling on the campaign trail, the Liberals promised they would provide revenue-neutral tax relief for the middle class by asking wealthy Canadians to pay more.

Bob McIntyre  Mr. Speaker, I rise in the House today on a sombre note. Bob McIntyre passed away yesterday at the age of 73. Well known for his charitable work and for serving as the first honorary colonel of 16 Wing at Base Borden, Bob was best known as Barrie's TV weatherman for the past four decades on CKVR, The New VR, 'A' Channel Barrie, and CTV Barrie.

Citizenship Act  Mr. Speaker, I listened intently to my hon. colleague's statements. I have been in the House most of the day and have listened to the debate over the last several days. He talked specifically about intellectual arguments on why this bill is not being supported on this side. I would suggest that we are talking about a very narrow band as it relates to the revocation of citizenship.

Citizenship Act  Mr. Speaker, I thank my hon. colleague for his speech and for sharing his experience with us. I was compelled by one particular part of what the hon. member spoke about, which is how as a new Canadian who could not speak the language, he was effectively held hostage by someone he worked with.

Citizenship Act  Mr. Speaker, oftentimes today, as we have sat through this debate, we have heard references to the effect that what Bill C-24 did was effectively designate people as second-class citizens. This morning my colleague from Durham talked quite eloquently about the privileges of having citizenship.

Citizenship Act  Madam Speaker, I listened to the member's speech in good faith, but he lost me when he referred to the bill as common in a dictatorship. I believe that shows lack of respect for this House. I believe it shows lack of respect for a parliamentary democracy. Every single member of this House is duly elected, and every government is duly elected to enact laws that it suggests are right for this country.

Citizenship Act  Madam Speaker, I want to congratulate the hon. member on his speech. He spoke with sincerity. During the election campaign I too heard about Bill C-24. Obviously I was hearing different things. Members of my riding were supportive of the revocation of citizenship for acts of terrorism, treason, or espionage.

Citizenship Act  Mr. Speaker, what we are not doing here is debating the issue of immigration and the value it has on Canadian society. We are all clear on the fact that immigration has contributed to the success of our country. Although I was not here then, if we look at the numbers under the Conservative government, they speak for themselves.

Income Tax Act  Mr. Speaker, I think all members on this side have acknowledged the fact that the Liberal plan is not what it has been made out to be. I said very clearly in my remarks that those who needed it the most would not actually benefit from it. It will be members of Parliament who will benefit from this tax decrease.

Income Tax Act  Mr. Speaker, the amount of $10,000 provided a lot of flexibility to people. I mean, incrementally, people can come into money and they can save a little more throughout the year. For most Canadians, for 11 million Canadians, that investment vehicle was just that. It was an option and vehicle to save, clearly in all of the investment strategies and retirement planning.

Income Tax Act  Mr. Speaker, it is a great pleasure to rise in the House today to speak to Bill C-2. I realize that we are near the end of the debate and the vote is coming tonight. Oftentimes when we prepare for these types of things, a lot of what we want to say has already been said. We have heard some good arguments from both sides of the House, but I happen to think that the arguments from this side have been more persuasive.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I have listened to the debate all day, and I keep hearing the same thing over and over. I want to remind all members of the House that EI is meant as a temporary measure to overcome circumstances. What Canadians want most is employment. They want to work. They do not want to be on EI.

Employment Insurance  Mr. Speaker, one of the fascinating things about this place is how Canadians come together. For many members in the House who do not know this, the member opposite and I went to high school together and were in the same grade, although we do not share the same views on politics.

Employment Insurance  Mr. Speaker, at the beginning of her speech, the member mentioned the fact that her party has consistently stood up for Canadian workers. One of the things that I believe Canadians want is to work. What this motion proposes is two months of work for, effectively, one year of EI.

Canada's Contribution to the Effort to Combat ISIL  Mr. Speaker, I should have shared my time with the hon. member across the floor and not the member for Calgary Nose Hill. However, I appreciate the member's comments on this. The challenge is that this is obviously still an active combat situation. It is a combat situation that the Liberals will not even mention is a combat situation.
