Government Operations committee  I imagine those engineers and architects tell you exactly how things work on the inside with regard to management, building sanitation and so on. Have they previously talked to you, for example, about inadequate budgets allocated for the rebuilding or maintenance of buildings?

Foreign Affairs committee  There is some progress, such as in the provision of emergency food to nearly 2.2 million internally displaced people and to other people affected by conflict or natural disaster. There is also access to medical care and sanitation services for nearly 27,000 people living close to the MSF-managed hospital in Galcayo. We're hoping that they will be able to keep that open. I must say, in conclusion, Mr. Chair, that the Horn of Africa ranks near the bottom in the world, and indeed below the rest of Africa, on the human development index.

Privilege  However, I was also told specifically by this person that if a constituent had called directly he or she would have been given the answer immediately, but if members of Parliament who are in opposition ask the question, we have to be sanitized in terms of what can be said to us. This is outrageous. This is a breach of my privileges as a member to serve my constituents. I do not believe this is a matter simply to suggest that a member such as myself or any member who has these kinds of experiences with the government, which wants to somehow impede our ability to do our job, should raise it with procedure and House affairs.

Canadian Environmental Protection Act  Phosphorus is added to automatic dishwashing detergents so it can break up dried or greasy food soils, remove calcium lime film, sanitize dishes and help keep the dishwasher's jets and pipes free from obstruction so the machine can operate using less water and less energy. This is very different from liquid hand-dishwashing detergent, which is surfactant based and does not contain phosphorus.

Business of Supply  Speaker, would the Liberal Party not agree that because of the fact that there are such cutbacks in the municipal-provincial transfers from the federal government in terms of infrastructure, that companies are coming out of the woodwork saying that they will look after our water systems, our sewage systems and our sanitation systems but that there will be a major fee? In the case of Halifax, for example, and in other countries like England and France where water systems are now going to the private sector, we are finding that a lot of people cannot afford water services and are being cut off from basic water rights. The cost to the taxpayer in the end, in those examples, is much more than if the water systems had stayed under a public regime.

Business of Supply  Conservatives did that. They did it with the schools and now with this program. Then we have our sanitation, which is picked up by a private contractor who has to make a certain profit at the end of the year, which costs the taxpayer even more money. Those are just three examples that I have given this fine gentleman of the P3 system.

International Volunteer Day  At any time, over 3,300 Canadians are volunteering internationally, working to fight poverty, increasing access to water and sanitation, teaching classes, providing health care, working to strengthen democracy and improve governance, and helping accelerate small business development. Since the creation of Canada's aid program more than 35 years ago, more than 75,000 Canadians have volunteered overseas.

Finance committee  These include the global fund to fight aids, TB, and malaria; the global TB drug facility; Canada's international immunization initiative; the fast track initiative for basic education; UNICEF's micro nutrient and nutrition initiatives; and the global TB drug facility, as well as the new global sanitation fund. All these vehicles have track records of success and established transparency and accountability mechanisms. All that is missing is a fair share of level of funding from donors such as Canada.

Public Safety committee  Consequently, after careful examination, it's clear that this provision—the special advocate provision—does not overcome the Supreme Court's arguments and decision of illegality. It does not save or sanitize the security certificate process. There is still no due process, and charter sections 7, 9, and 10 are still not respected. Mr. Chairman, the suggestion that the Supreme Court recommended this solution, the special advocate solution as set out in this bill, is not correct.

Devils Lake Diversion Project  It goes on to say: First Nations in Canada have rights that are recognized by the Constitution of Canada, the supreme law of this country, to use rivers and waters for human consumption, sanitation, fishing, navigation and other means necessary to continue our traditional way of life in modern times. He goes on to say: Customary international law requires that rivers be used in a manner that is equitable to all concerned, including indigenous peoples.

Haitian Memorial  They have installed statues of Toussaint Louverture, Jean-Jacques Dessalines, Catherine Flon, Alexandre Pétion, Sanite Bélair et Henri Christophe, six historical figures who contributed to the birth of Haiti, the first black republic in history. This place of gathering and solidarity will allow the Haitian community in Montreal to celebrate its culture and to perpetuate the memory of the heroes of independence.

Transport committee  We heard from Kirsten Brazier, and she said: If we are really concerned about safety and truly want to become the safest country in the world, then we need to start sharing information with a view to discussing and learning from our mistakes. Instead of sanitizing and restricting safety information--such as the service difficulty reports, Transportation Safety Board accident and incident reports, and the CADORS--we need to make this information more accessible in its entirety with industry so we can learn from it.

Indigenous and Northern Affairs committee  What they want to know is, are they going to get proper housing tomorrow? Are we going to have clean water? Are we going to have good sanitation? That's what they want to know. But to connect that to human rights, in our traditional ways of thinking, we've always been keepers of our human rights as first nations people, as community people in our communities.

Committees of the House  Recognizing the right to water would allow international law to address issues of unequal distribution, and safe water for drinking and sanitation in other countries. Canadians are concerned about the lack of the current position on bulk water exports. The Conservative Party did nothing in the election to address growing concerns about the stability and quality of Canada's water supply.
