Veterans Affairs committee  I'm know I'm bringing a bit of a levity to this questioning. Ms. Copeland, at your bakery out in Squamish, B.C., do you have Nanaimo bars? If so, how do we get some out to this committee?

Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement Implementation Act  The government, both the Conservative and Liberal, failed to negotiate similar protections for our local brands, the Nanaimo bar, for example. Will a European company be able to market a Nanaimo bar? Will it be able to market Saskatoon berries? I am very concerned that there are no protections for wineries in Nanaimo.

Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement Implementation Act  The interesting part about this is Canada received zero geographical indicators. Think about Nanaimo bars, Saskatoon berries, maple syrup, or Montreal smoked meat. None of these things are protected. That means European companies can continue to label their products in this way. This is a huge loss to all of these growth industries.

Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement Implementation Act  First, the Europeans had some 170 geographic indications protected under CETA, and the Canadian negotiators received exactly zero, mainly because Canadian negotiators proposed not one geographic indication. There is no protection for Saskatoon berries, Montreal smoked meat, Nanaimo bars, maple syrup, nothing. Second, Newfoundland gave up its minimum processing requirements for fish in exchange for a promise from the previous Conservative government of compensation in the amount of some $400 million, and it is adamant that it would not have given up the minimum processing requirements without that absolute pledge from the federal government.

Canadian Heritage committee  It was the concept of a bucket with Canadian flags in it, some streamers, several copies of O Canada, and I think recipes for Nanaimo bars.
